Jungles and Islands in Eastern Malaysia

Touch down in the busy, bustling city of Kuala Lumpur, where you’ll be met by your driver and whisked across town to your stylish inner city sanctuary at Traders KL. Right in the heart of The Golden Triangle with the twinkling Petronas Towers just next door, this is the perfect base from which to explore the city. Amble around KL’s perfectly pruned parks and stop off for a spot of retail therapy at one of the area’s vast storeping malls, before retiring to the comfort of your hotel for a dip in the rooftop pool set at the center of rooftop bar Skybar. With an extensive range of cocktails served up alongside spectacular views of the towers, this is a great place to wind down after a busy day. Spend the following day exploring Chinatown’s hawker stalls and visiting the local markets before heading to one of our favorite hidden bars, “Palate Palette” for a drink or bite to eat. When the sun goes down, simply wander down the road and sample the city’s vibrant night scene at live music venue “No Black Tie”.

Jungle explorations

From the deepest depths of the city to the farthest reaches of the Malaysian jungle, the next leg of your trip will take you into Taman Negara National Park. Get a feel for your surroundings on a night walk through the jungle accompanied by an expert nature guide, before retiring to the comfort of your rustic wooden chalet. Bright and early the next morning, and after a good breakfast, you’ll head on out again on a jungle trek right up to Tersik Hill which offers incredible rainforest panoramas that stretch right out to Mount Tahan; Malaysia’s highest peak. For a more relaxing afternoon, set off on a boat trip to Lata Berkoh and take in the stunning landscapes from the water.

Beach bliss on Redang Island

Having satisfied your inner-explorer it’s time to swap your walking gear for your swimmers and sarong and enjoy a bit of sand-time on Redang Island, just off the east coast of peninsular Malaysia. Staying at the luxurious beachside retreat The Taaras, you’ll be free to spend the next four nights of your trip catching some rays out on the sugar white sands and paddling in the azure waters of the South China Sea. Should you need to add a touch of adrenaline to your beach routine then strap on some scuba gear and explore the island’s underwater attractions…oh, and make sure to set aside some time for a turtle watching expedition or two.

Our coastal secret

From the island paradise of Redang you’ll then head back to the mainland to a secluded little spot on the east coast of Terengganu know as Tanjong Jara. One of Malaysia’s premier resorts, Tanjong Jara is set on a vivid yellow stretch of sand which rolls out into warm seas. After settling into your spacious suite we’d recommend visiting the world famous Spa for an authentic Malay massage or bespoke treatment, before tucking into a delicious dinner at the beachside restaurant Nelayan. Luckily, when it comes to keeping you occupied this particular little retreat offers a whole host of options, from visits to the local fish market, and Batik painting lessons, to cookery courses with Chef Anne (a one-of-a-kind treasure trove of knowledge) and snorkeling trips off the shores of outlying island Tenggol. Or, you could just spend your days lounging by the infinity pool sipping on ice cold orange water…or something a bit stronger.
