The Maldives
Huvafen Fushi, North Male Atoll
Huvafen Fushi is the perfect tropical island getaway, resting on the edge of a lagoon amid perfect turquoise waters and pristine white sands. The name appropriately means “Dream Island” and the hotel has been designed to take full advantage of its location, with private bungalows above the water and the world’s only underwater spa nestled amongst the reefs below. The level of luxury here is world class yet Huvafen Fushi manages to retain an air of chic casualness that really sets it apart.
Location
This unique retreat sits amongst the palm trees on a private tropical island, thirty minutes by speedboat from the airport at Malé (or fifteen minutes by sea plane if you can’t wait that long to get there). The island has a private lagoon and is surrounded by crystal clear waters and beautiful reefs.
Your room
There is a choice of accommodation and all of the options ooze style and luxury. If you adore your creature comforts there are beautiful private Beach Bungalows and if you want a bit more seclusion and privacy you can opt for one of the Water Bungalows, some of which even boast glass floors to enjoy the view of the sea below. All the bungalows have every possible luxury, including flat screen TV’s, Bose Sound Systems, bars and private pools. You may even decide to choose a luxury Dhoni, a traditional Maldivian Sailboat with a full crew to look after your every need and take you to all of the best locations for diving, snorkelling or just chilling out.
Why we like it
Huvafen Fushi is everything that you imagine when you stare out of your window on a rainy day and dream about that deserted tropical island retreat. Depending on the time of year you are likely to see Manta Rays, Whale Sharks or Dolphins from the comfort of your private deck or even the underwater viewing ports in the spa . Private reef diving is available for the more adventurous, or you could just relax in the infinity pool and let the sea life come to you. Finally don’t miss out on the “destination dining” experience, where the staff will arrange for a private table for two on a deserted island. Idyllic island retreats don’t come any better.
