Jicaro Eco Lodge
A magical island experience with a twist, Jicaro is situated on a private island in Lake Nicaragua, a short distance from Granada. Nestled amongst the luscious rainforest are nine private casitas all of which blend seamlessly into the surroundings, while boasting stunning views of the lake. Whether you’re looking for a romantic bolthole, a yoga retreat or something a little more adrenaline inducing, Jicaro has it covered. Built with minimum impact to the island, this eco lodge is a prime example of sustainable tourism – think biodegradable soaps, detergents and spa products, solar panels and chlorine free water systems – environmental harmony is their mantra.
Location
One of 365 Islets of Granada, the private island of Jicaro boasts spectacular views of both Lake Nicaragua and Mombacho Volcano. Just a short boat trip away from the Spanish colonial city of Granada, you’re still close to civilization but in blissfully peaceful surroundings it feels like you’re miles away.
Your room
The nine private Castillas all have lake views and consist of two floors – bedroom upstairs, bathroom, living area and spacious deck downstairs (hammock and lake views included). The furniture is made from locally sourced sustainable Rainforest wood and is simply stunning – minimalistic and beautifully decorated.
Why we like it
Jicaro has something for everyone – yoga classes, a romantic candlelit dinner on the resort’s floating deck and a range of tours and excursions from hot springs to volcano treks. Not only is Jicaro a luxury island retreat, but an environmentally friendly one at that. Everything is sustainably sourced – from the food on your plate to the bed you’ll rest your head on – you really feel at one with nature, especially while you kick back and listen to the island’s abundant birdlife call.
