It’s no secret what we at Black Tomato think about South Africa – with such stunning scenery, world-class food and wine, and sunny, sandy beaches, it’s fair to say we’re pretty smitten. With a hankering for luxury and a little bit of celeb-style coursing through our veins, we also love Camps Bay, and now we’ve found a hotel that reflects all this style, class and substance, POD. This hotel, with its sensational views over the ocean on one side, and the majesty of Table Mountain on the other, is a blend of seriously stylish contemporary chic and classic rustic designs which you’ll see in the tree trunk tables resting seamlessly next to modern-styled chairs in the sleek lounge areas.
It doesn’t get much better than this. In the heart of the uber-trendy Camps Bay, with its soft sand Clifton Beaches, palm-tree lined promenades, and plethora of outdoor bars, restaurants and cafés, POD is still only a short drive from the city. Put simply, Camps Bay is where you want to be. What’s more, the views are nothing short of spectacular, with the shimmering ocean on one side, the idyllic Table Mountain on the other and, at night, the bright lights of the city transforming the coast line into what looks like a flickering mass of candles. Simply beautiful.
With unique designs that blend classic and contemporary, POD’s 15 rooms survey the glory of either the mountain or the sea views, and as one of Tatler’s top 101 hotels in the world, you can expect some serious luxury here. Brightly lit, contemporary furniture, flat screen wall-mounted TVs, expansive comfort to roam in and, of course, those amazing views, your room will certainly impress. Sink into comfy ergo-beds, lose yourself in the enormous walk-in rain shower, and in the suites, step out onto your balcony to survey the view with the sea breeze in your hair.
Why we like it
Where to start? The location, the luxury, the views, the design; it all adds up to create a special hotel that has left us truly wowed. We love the stunning pool terrace that overlooks the ocean and in the case of the suites, the plunge pools that are perfect for that decadent edge to relaxation. What most does it for us though, is the style that the hotel exudes from every room. The bar and lounge area’s seating, with tree trunk tables and luxuriously comfy sofas to sink into are just perfect to enjoy a drink as you look out onto the incredible views and, together with the room designs, leave us no choice but to love POD. We know you will too.
