An intimate Sri Lankan manor house with just the right amount of that old colonial atmosphere, Reef Villa is a seriously luxurious boutique hotel. And with only seven rooms in this beachside bolthole, you’ll feel like a private VIP house guest. With gorgeous antique beds, fans handed down from the East India Company and plenty of contemporary touches to make you feel at home, this is the place for an Indian Ocean escape.
Surrounded by lush tropical gardens lapping at the coast of the Indian Ocean, the hardest choice you’ll have all day is whether to lie in a hammock or lounge chair as you catch some rays. Ah, life is tough. The nearby village of Wadduwa is only two hours from Sri Lanka’s main airport too – don your swimsuit right after your flight, or make it your last stop for a little slice of paradise before heading back home with that jealousy-inducing tan.
Each of the seven rooms have elegant sitting areas and private terraces from which to admire the gorgeous landscape. Lie on your four-mailer bed beneath the huge high ceilings, draped in fine linens and fabrics which make you feel just a bit like the royalty you’ve always wanted to be. We love the idea of relaxing on your own Indian swing on your terrace where you can watch the world go by, or maybe enjoy a good book in the shade.
Why we like it
The ultimate in unique colonial design and understated luxury, at Reef the most effort you need to exert is walking between your room, the restaurants, pool, spa and beach. But we’re sure you’ll manage. The amazing local and Western food here is completely mouth-watering, and we love that you can enjoy it under a thatched-roof, or on your own veranda, then soak in the infinity pool before, perhaps, a deep tissue massage at the spa. It doesn’t get much better.
