It’s not often at Black Tomato that we get the chance to present you with a truly immersive farmstay, so we’re pretty excited about this particular find. The Country Girl at Heart Farm is nestled among green rolling hills in Kentucky’s Hart County, and offers just five rooms. The true appeal of this delightful farm is the immersive element; you’ll be encouraged to get your hands dirty in the barn, gather eggs or help out in the workstore. We can guarantee you’ll be back for more.
The Country Girl at Heart Farm might be set deep in rural Hart County, but it’s deceptively close to all the key towns of Kentucky: less than two hours away from Louisville, Lexington, Bowling Green and Owensboro, this is a lesson in accessible escapism. And although you won’t be wanting to stray far from the farm during your stay – you’ll be too busy swooning over the latest animal arrivals in the barn – your next stop should definitely be the Mammoth Cave National Park right next door, where you can descend into the depths of the longest known cave system in the world.
We love the unique and rustic hotchpotch of textures and color that make up the Country Girl’s rooms: antique lamps provide a welcoming glow, books line the shelves and plates adorn the walls. Bask in the home-from-home feel of the place as you look out across serene pastures and relish the thought of another day on the farm.
WHY WE LIKE IT
Well, firstly, we’re big fans of how the spirit of the farm extends into the kitchen, with delicious seasonal meals emerging from a huge range of local, natural and organic ingredients. Blueberry pancakes anyone? And if at any stage you decide you’re not in the mood for fun in the barn, send the children out instead and luxuriate with a good book in the floor-to-ceiling library. Wandering out into the garden after dinner, listening to the faint clip-clop of Amish horses and revelling in the countless brilliant stars above your head, you’ll know you’ve found a truly bucolic spot.
