Southern California, or SoCal as it’s affectionately known, is a destination of beautiful coastlines and quaint towns. Few are as charming as La Jolla, however. A town that sits around 30 minutes north of San Diego, La Jolla offers the best of the Cali lifestyle, minus the crowds.
We’ve got a four-night La Jolla itinerary here that’ll fit into any, all-encompassing West Coast trip, so read on to discover exactly how we’ll ensure venture off the well-worn trails and discover authentic coastal California.
Arrive at the Estancia Resort & Spa and you’ll immediately lose yourself in the peace and solitude that the extensive grounds of this hotel provide. The abundant tropical gardens here hide a stunning pool area, where a luxury cabana will be waiting for you, so drop your bags off and head straight back out for an afternoon of champagne by the water.
The next day, having enjoyed a good night’s rest and some delicious food on-site, you’ll be taken down to the ocean to board your private 60 foot catamaran. Yours for the afternoon, you’ll sail up and down the coastline, spotting seals and seabirds before settling down to watch the sun set in a blaze of red and gold. Back on dry land and looking significantly more sun-kissed, you’ll be driven back to Estancia for a relaxed dinner at their Mustangs and Burros restaurant, before heading back to your inviting double-bed.Read more
TAKE TO THE WATER
Start another of your days out on the ocean as you embark on a guided kayak tour. With so many astounding sea caves to discover and so much beautiful wildlife to spot, kayaking is one of the best ways to make the most of La Jolla’s coastal location. For the next few hours, you’ll be paddling in a marine ecological reserve, learning about everything from the kelp forests swaying just below the surface to the pelicans soaring high above the waves. We can even arrange for a photographer to join you on your private adventure so that you can concentrate on living in the moment, and worry about Instagram a little later on…
Spend the rest of the afternoon exploring the quaint boutiques of downtown La Jolla before being transported back to Estancia for a quick change into something a little warmer in preparation for your sunset picnic atop La Jolla’s Gliderport. Armed with a specially prepared picnic basket, compliments of your luxe lodgings, settle down and watch the sun dip below the horizon as you sip champagne and make a toast to an already-spectacular trip. If the wind is just right, you may even be lucky enough to spot hang-gliders hopping off the cliff face for their daily dose of adrenaline.
After such a relaxing evening, we’re looking to up the ante a bit by booking you on to a private helicopter ride above the dramatic La Jolla coastline. Look down upon the town and its surrounding beaches in the early morning light as you swoop your way across the horizon. Both adrenaline-inducing and strangely soothing, you’ll feel like the only people in the world as you gaze upon one of the prettiest parts of California from the air.
Back at the hotel, it’s time to prepare the ultimate souvenir of your time at Estancia Resort &Spa. With the help of a master mixologist, you’ll be taught how to make your very own La Jolla inspired cocktail. The fun doesn’t stop there, however, as once mixed; you’ll transfer your beverage into its very own barrel, where it’ll be aged for six months. The result? A mid-winter delivery to your door of a cocktail that’ll bring back sweet, golden memories of your time at the very tip of California. A little slice of sunshine in the depths of winter, what could be better?
