In no other country but the US can you travel so extensively, and all without a passport. New England, tucked away up in the northeast of America, is our go-to getaway for the ultimate foodie road trip. Our in-house USA travel experts promise that getting behind the wheel is the absolute best way to see, and taste, all of what New England has to offer. With six very different states to its name, you’ll be slinging back self-harvested oysters in the seaside town of Plymouth one minute and the next you’ll be driving through the forests of Maine spotting moose on the roadside. Discover the birthplace of America and lose yourself in it’s National Parks, drive through it’s rolling hill wine regions and haul your own lobsters from its waters. What are you waiting for?

SKYSCRAPERS & SHUCKING OYSTERS

The first three nights of your New England road trip will be spent at XV Beacon, a luxury boutique hotel in the most prestigious neighborhood of Boston. While away the first evening sampling fine wines in the hotel’s cellar before venturing out the following day on a scenic and historic tour of the city. You’ll visit the world-famous Harvard University and wander through Boston’s very own ‘Central Park’ before heading out to the seaside town of Plymouth the next day. Here, you’ll dig for oysters at one of the town’s many oyster farms before slurping down the self-harvested salty oysters from their shell and sipping on specially paired sparkling wine. Tomorrow, your road trip truly begins with a scenic drive to mid-coast Maine, stopping at Portland on the way for a culinary walking tour where you’ll sample fresh Maine lobster mac ‘n’ cheese, seafood chowder, and even brussel sprout caesar salad and dark truffles made with Aroostook County potatoes.

Start Planning

HIKE IN THE HEART OF IT

Surrounded by the lushly forested mountains of Maine, the small village of Camden is a hidden gem in the heart of New England. You’ll spend three nights perched on a hilltop with uninterrupted views of Camden and it’s harbor at the Camden Harbor Inn. To begin with, you’ll have a day to spend however you like, but we recommend a wine tasting at one of the rocky coastline vineyards or a hike through the Acadia National Park. With seven peaks above 1,000 feet and 158 miles of hiking trails; getting lost is all part of the adventure. Sooth your post-hike aching muscles with a candle-lit massage and in-suite midnight lobster dinner before heading out onto the water the next morning and cruising across the bay to a remote seal habitat where you’ll spot sunfish, porpoise whales, and seals, to name a few.

TO THE SEASIDE

The next stop will be Kennebunkport where you’ll spend just two nights at the charming coastal town’s best-kept secret, the White Barn Inn. A beloved local landmark, the White Barn Inn has reigned over Kennebunkport for over 150 years and is as much a part of the small town as the waters that lap up against its shores. We’ll arrange a private tour of the seaside town and Southern Maine where you’ll see some of the 60+ lighthouses that line Maine’s rocky coast and President Bush’s family summer home. The White Barn Inn’s very own restaurant, converted from two old rustic barns and dating back to the 1820s, is a real highlight of Kennebunkport. Using only the finest New England ingredients, you’ll be in for a real treat. Whispering your name across the waters is the final destination of your New England road trip, the one-of-a-kind Nantucket Island.

A GOOD HAUL

Nantucket Island is the ultimate New England destination and is home to The Wauwinet which is where you’ll spend the remaining four nights of your road trip. The island, just across the water from Cape Cod, was one of the first settlements in America and is steeped in history. Tour around the island on a basket-fronted bicycle and ride along the cobbled streets of the seaside town, stumble upon the hidden sandy beaches and scout the most romantic spot for a picnic. Take some time to relax, but do make sure to spend some time on the water too. There’s nothing better than a day onboard The Wauwinet Lady with Captain Rob, who will show you how to haul in lobster traps from Nantucket Bay before handing them over to the chefs at Wauwinet to prepare for your evening meal. You simply won’t have tasted lobster like it.

After a relaxed final few days, it’s time to return to Boston and head on home with a newed love for seafood and coastal cruising.
