Whether a music, whiskey, food or arts lover- you’ll find Tennessee has something to ignite your passions. By meeting up with the straight talking, genuine folk at George Dickel Tennessee Whisky, Black Tomato has created the definitive experience set to blow the minds of the most indulgent of travelers. From The Music City to The Smoky Mountains; this is the inside track to Tennessee and it’s time to sit up and take notice.
First stop is of course Nashville, The Music City. You’ll check in to The Hutton Hotel, the most sophisticated retreat around by a country mile and home to the divine 1808 Grille. Black Tomato highly recommends refuelling here and brushing shoulders with Music Row’s elite before embarking on your first trip downtown.
Get acclimatized to the wonders of Nashville in the historic, trendy Gulch District; a hotspot for young urbanites amidst iconic industrial conversion architecture. Browse the buzzing stores, from Two Old Hippies clothing to Galerie Ravin art, before taking time to immerse yourself in the city’s world-famous music scene. Take a private tour of the Country Music Hall of Fame Museum, the famous RCA Studio B or even write and record your own country song with a prestigious writer. The choice is yours.Read more
Continue your evening with a fix of great entertainment at Ryman Auditorium or spend some time at the iconic Tootsie’s Orchid Lounge or Wildhorse Saloon. The Bluebird Café also provides a more relaxed setting as a listening room for world-renowned songwriters to play their own songs as they were meant to be heard before being recorded by the stars.
After breakfast, allow our chauffeur to take charge as last night’s songs still reverberate in your head. First port of call, Music City Leather, to get your very own custom cowboy boots designed and fitted before you head out of town. Then, why not break them in at the breath-taking Rutledge Falls; an activity to get your appetite up on your way to George Dickel Whisky country, Tullahoma.
You’ll arrive in the beautiful landscapes of the Deep South to be welcomed with open arms by the George Dickel distillery staff. Start with a two hour private tour as a whisky expert gives you the inside scoop on how the George Dickel signature chill charcoal mellowing process creates that smooth, legendary flavor. Taste the liquid at each stage of the process from the mash tubs and fermentation to the distillation.
You’ll then get to sample straight from the barrel, learn all you need to know about the passion and process that goes into producing one of the world’s best whiskies, and even walk away with a limited release of one of the oldest Tennessee Whiskies around (c. 17 years old, in fact). After this exclusive experience, move up to the Post Office Speakeasy for an authentic Tennessee fried chicken lunch. Get ready for some of the most delicious flavors, thanks to the work of local producers Blackberry Patch (the blackberry cobbler is a must-try). After lunch, indulge in games on the lawn, sample the George Dickel range, and relax in the sunshine as evening approaches. The final extravagance of the day is a short helicopter ride east to land at your final dwelling, the pure, rural bliss of Blackberry Farm, in the heart of the Smoky Mountains.
A Final Retreat
Waking at Blackberry Farm is as close to perfection as it gets. From your estate room, cottage suite or even entire house, the range of outdoor activities is endless; choose from hiking, fly-fishing and canoeing. If it’s more of a restful time you long for don’t fret, the estate’s resident baker, cheese maker or chocolatier are all on hand to make sure you feel utterly spoilt. As night falls, sample the delicious wines at private tastings, savor the organic cuisine or roll your sleeves up and embark on the chef’s sublime cooking course. The ultimate, wholesome end to a Deep South adventure.
