Pre-travel

How long does it take to plan a honeymoon?

We’ll first set up an initial call to get to know you both, your interests and how you like to travel, as well as discussing ideas in your chosen destination. From here we’ll curate a tailor-made itinerary and send it over within 48 hours. You can then fine-tune your trip as much as you’d like before confirming when it’s all perfect.

What happens after I book?

We will confirm everything with our local suppliers and start organising your trip. You will be given access to your personalized app which contains additional information about your destination and a countdown to your trip. As you get closer to the departure date and you’ve made your final payment, we’ll introduce you to our Restaurant Planner and send through your final travel documents before setting up a pre-departure call to answer any last-minute questions. Then it’s honeymoon time.

When will I need to make full payment for my honeymoon?

The balance payment is due 12 weeks in advance of the intended departure date. If the booking is made less than 12 weeks before departure, the full price of the trip will be payable on booking. Prices quoted are GBP sterling prices based on daily currency exchange rates current at the time of quotation. Payments must be made in the currency of the invoice and can be made by cheque, bank transfer, debit or credit card. View full booking conditions here.

Can I book extra services once I’ve booked and paid?

Yes absolutely. We’re super flexible and know that new ideas might come to mind as the weeks go on, so depending on availability, we are always happy to add in new experiences for you.

When you send us our final trip itinerary is it possible to leave out an experience so it’s a surprise for my partner?

Absolutely. We understand that a candlelit dinner in the middle of the Zambezi River or a sunrise hot air balloon ride over the Agafay Desert is a special moment for you both, so we’ll be more than happy to leave this out of the written document to build the excitement. What’s a honeymoon without a surprise here and there?

Do hotels need any proof that it's our honeymoon?

Your Travel Expert will inform all the properties that it will be your honeymoon and you’ll be incredibly well looked after. However, it can never hurt to bring your wedding certificate with you just in case.

I am not sure yet when I will change my name - does this impact our honeymoon?

For the hotels it will be absolutely fine. However, for your flight your name should be as per your passport. If you were to book your flight six months prior, it might be better to wait until you are back from your honeymoon to change your name.

Do I need a visa?

Please be aware that entry visa requirements are considered your own responsibility and without the correct visa, evisa or entry permits you may be refused entry to any given destination. It is essential that you check whether a visa is needed in order for you to travel – please do check with your Travel Expert if you are in any way unsure. Please also note that most countries require that your passport have at least six months remaining until expiry after your date of return home. It is also suggested that you have at least two consecutive blank pages available in your passport for entry stamps and visas granted on arrival.

For any additional advice or information on the country (or countries) you are traveling to, we recommend visiting the following links – UK Foreign Office and US State Department prior to departure.

Do I need travel insurance?

Unfortunately, the sale of travel insurance is considered a sale of financial services and as such is regulated by the Financial Services Authority in the United Kingdom where we are a registered business. In light of this we cannot give any recommendations about which insurance providers to choose; however if you have any general questions please do not hesitate to ask your Travel Expert as we’ll be happy to help you as much as we possibly can.

Please be aware that it is your responsibility to organize travel insurance for your trip. It is essential and a condition of booking with Black Tomato, that you take out a comprehensive travel insurance policy to cover you before, during and after your trip. Unfortunately, we will not be responsible for any costs incurred by you or any member of your party before, during or after your trip as a consequence of inappropriate or insufficient travel insurance being purchased. So please do remember this.

Do I need to get vaccines for my honeymoon?

Please be aware it’s your responsibility to ensure you’re covered for all possible vaccinations or medications needed for your trip. We pride ourselves on being able to do many things but sadly we are not qualified physicians, so please speak with your doctor to ensure you are up to date on your recommended vaccinations. Often vaccinations need to be given well over a month prior to departure to have reached full efficacy.

For any further information we recommend you either refer directly to your doctor/physician or look at the following websites: https://nathnac.net/ or https://wwwnc.cdc.gov/travel

Trip type

What's the perfect length for a honeymoon?

There is no ‘perfect’ length – your honeymoon can be however long (or short) you wish. Whilst we do specialize in great 10-14 day trips, we can always work around your personal requirements to create the perfect getaway no matter the time frame.

How can we find a destination that will provide experiences we can both enjoy?

We have a team of global Travel Experts who will be able to give you suitable recommendations where you will both have a fantastic time. We’ll set up times to speak to you, or send group emails to ensure that you both ask us as many questions as you like. Or if you’re keeping it a secret then just tell us a little about what they like and we’ll be able to work our magic.

We can only get a couple of days off work, can you still plan a great honeymoon for us?

Of course. Some destinations are perfect for a mini-moon, and just because you have a shorter time period to travel in, doesn’t mean we can’t give you the exact same service to ensure you get what you want out of your honeymoon.

Is it suitable to bring children or babies along on our honeymoon?

Why not… if you’re ok with it then we are. Many of us in the Black Tomato team have families of our own, so we know all about the worries and wonders of traveling with your little ones on board. Tell us all about your children and their habits, and we’ll curate a bespoke itinerary to cater to their every need. As well as honeymoons, we’re fantastic at family travel; have a look here.

Definitely. All of our Travel Experts have the most up-to-date restaurant recommendations from around the world. With your help, they will get an insight into your dining out preferences and make suitable recommendations based on this, before getting in touch with our contacts on the ground to secure a reservation. We can book as many lunches and dinners as you would like on your trip, just let us know.

Will there be any extra amenities at our hotels being honeymooners?

Of course. We work extremely closely with our hotels and their devoted teams, so naturally, we’ll let them know all about your trip so they can take extra special care of you.
