Tyler May is a sales and Marketing Coordinator at the Westin Monache Resort in Mammoth, and also helps out at Petra’s Bistro. In the summer in her spare time she likes to go hiking, biking, fishing and swimming; in the winter she loves nothing more than snowboarding.
How long have you lived here, and what keeps you here in Mammoth Lakes?
I’ve been here for 15 months and whilst Mammoth Lakes is the place I’m able to grow my current career, it is also the most beautiful place in California.
Where’s your favorite spot
That would have to be the 360’ view from the Peak of Mammoth Mountain.
Is the town busy all year round or is there a quiet time?
Mammoth Lakes is quite busy in the peak of summer and winter. However, the town slows down substantially from Easter to about the 4th of July, and again from mid-September until the first big storm in December.
Where serves the best breakfast?
My favorite place for breakfast in town is Base Camp Café, but if you want the best coffee head to Stellar Brew. I may have a bias opinion as I work there, but my favorite place to eat in town is definitely Petra’s, and Mammoth Tavern does the great cocktails if you’re looking for something a little stronger.
If we had only one day in Mammoth Lakes, what would you recommend we see?
On a first trip to Mammoth Lakes I would highly recommend taking the Gondola to the Peak of the Mountain. However, if you’re looking for something a little more adventurous, hike into Red’s Meadow at the top of the peak to see Devil’s Postpile and Rainbow Falls. Personally, I think the most beautiful walk is to a place called Crystal Lake.
And if hiking isn’t your thing, then you can still enjoy the beauty of Mammoth Lakes on the Town Trolley. It’s a great complimentary way to view town and take a ride up to the Lakes Basin.
If we’re after I’m in need of some pampering , where is the best Spa?
I would recommend Double Eagle Spa inside the Snowcreek Athletic Club.
