If there is one iconic spot in West Hollywood that we can’t get enough of, it’s The London hotel. The ideal place for a late night cocktail as well as luxury rooms and incredible views; it seemed fitting that we had a chat with the hotel’s concierge to get the low down on this incredible city…
Tell us a bit about who you are and what you do…
What I do? Well, I’m a Concierge at a beautiful luxury hotel in West Hollywood called “The London West Hollywood at Beverly Hills”. I get to make memories for people from all over the world and I love it. I design bespoke itineraries for families, business men and women, groups of friends etc.
Who am I? I am a country boy. I was raised on a farm in Kentucky where I learned what hard work, responsibility and faith were. On my weekends my wife and I are helping lead the Youth Group at my church, Reality LA. My life is a bit ‘counter-culture’, especially in Los Angeles these days, but this world needs a light and we’re doing our best to shine it.
What makes The London a special place to stay?
Lots of things make The London a special place to spend time in Los Angeles, but I’ll give you three. Our location makes us the most central to all there is to do in this big city. We’re halfway between the beach at Santa Monica and culturally diverse downtown, as well as 15 minutes in either direction from Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills and the famous Hollywood Boulevard, where sits The Chinese Theater and ‘Walk of Fame’.
Our product is the best value in LA. Suites start at 750 square feet (which is much larger than any standard hotel room in Beverly Hills) and come with complimentary wireless internet and daily breakfast.
Lastly, our view is the most coveted in the LA hospitality industry. We have the best vantage point of our city from our gorgeous Rooftop hands down. We open up our ‘West Deck’ to the public for dining through the Summer, but our ‘Poolside’ is strictly for our hotel guests and cabana patrons year-round.
What are your top tips on discovering WeHo to new arrivals?
See your Concierge first… it’s why we exist. Don’t take the city blindly as there is so much to see and you probably have limited time. However, if you are going to “Visit West Hollywood” on your own, the city has great resources to help guide you. VisitWestHollywood.com is as good a place as any to start, as well as searching #visitweho on Instagram for some great highlights.
Where do you go to unwind?
When I have to unwind, I’ll usually take my wife to Burke Williams Spa. Though we are not members of the spa, we have spent more than a handful of times relaxing with them. Most of my guests prefer their massages to happen in the privacy of their own hotel room, but I do send those looking for a full service spa over to Burke Williams.
How would you describe WeHo’s general atmosphere?
The general atmosphere of West Hollywood is one of highly energetic friendliness by day and one big party by night. People here are always looking for the hot scene to try new cocktails and dance late into the night and maybe even rub elbows with a celebrity or two.
Where would we find the best food and drink in WeHo?
I hate this question… there are just too many fantastic places in this very small city. I’d make my decision for dining and cocktails based on my company. An outing with friends would be best spent at The Church Key for dinner and cocktails. A dinner with my wife would be spent at Amarone Kitchen and Wine… it’s superb. Post dinner cocktails could be had at numerous places, like Rock and Reilly’s (a local favorite), the new restaurant, Maia on Sunset, or Avenue 31 where ‘cocktail-chef’ Matthew Biancaniello will surprise you with every cocktail.
What’s your favorite time of year here and why?
My favorite time of year is just before Halloween through New Year… the city starts to get excited about the cool weather, decorations, parties for Halloween and Christmas, friends gathering at Thanksgiving where our city’s chefs crank out the most amazing meals… it’s one big party for friends and family and visitors alike.
What do you think it is that makes WeHo such an attractive destination to visitors?
All of the above! The location, walkability, attitude, dining, friendliness, energetic atmosphere, culture, and taste… all of these make our diverse city the best home away from home for visitors.
Finally, describe WeHo in three words…
“Energetic social party”… or “When you coming?”
