Follow in the tracks of many an international racing driver and make the journey to Austin, Texas, for a refined yet edgy travel experience of the likes only the Lone Star State can provide. It’s a city in which you’ll discover an abundance of luxury lodgings, a unique southern culture and laid-back vibe, world-class music and a thriving culinary scene. Trust us; it’s enough to keep you occupied for days (and nights) on end.
AT A GLANCE
A quirky city of trend-setters and discerning travelers, Austin has become an iconic US destination over the years. Home to South by SouthWest festival, world-famous racing events and streets that pulsate with the sound of live music every night of the week, Austin has an unfathomable energy and creativity. Everywhere you look there will be something to grab your attention, be it colorful street art, a succulent roadside BBQ or energetic busker. This is one city that refuses to go unnoticed.
WHAT TO SEE
First things first, you’ll want to see where you’re staying, right? And since we only deal in the most luxurious things in life, we’ll have you and your Tumi luggage checked into the W Austin, where you’ll appreciate an abundance of unique décor inspired by a variety of artists and designers. It’s the perfect balance of modern creativity and rustic southern charm that reflects the personality of the city. The hotel’s outdoor pool in particular will prove to be an ideal respite after endless hours of exploration.
And where should these endless hours of exploration take you? Well, you’ve got plenty of options to choose from. For a quiet spot of artistry, we’d recommend you head to the Umlauf Sculpture Gardens. A tranquil retreat in the heart of the city; a morning spent contemplating the beautiful sculptures here is a morning well spent. Then, for hours of aimless people watching and some authentic food, visit the famous Soco District, where you’ll find an eclectic variety of small restaurants, music, art events and (our favorite bit) plenty of food trucks. If you want to explore further afield, a few miles outside the city you will find the Circuit of the Americas; here you might be lucky enough to catch one of the many events, otherwise you can take a tour or even take to the tracks and feel rush that Nico Rosberg must get as he whips around the very same circuit.
Finish your day on the Congress Ave Bridge, where you’ll witness over a million bats emerge from the platform beneath, swarming out into the sunset for a night of feeding. Like most of the sights you’ll see in Austin, this is an incredibly unique spectacle. What’s more, it’ll end at just the right time for a beer at one of the local bars. Then, when the sun has finally set and you’ve had your fill of the non-stop music scene, indulge in a little me-time at the W Hotel’s spa. You’ve always got to end with a spot of luxury, right?
