Doreen, Andrew and Terry work for Churchill Wild in Manitoba; a company for whom polar bear tours, snorkelling with beluga whales and Arctic Safaris are a way of life. A family business owned by Mike and Jeanne Reimer, Churchill Wild lays claim a number of remote, fly-in lodges across this incredible part of the Arctic; so as you can imagine, the photos we got back from these three were envy-inducing to say the least.
What’s unique about your day to day life?
Every day is unique. We are lucky to be in a position to get close to polar bears, to observe the diverse wildlife and learn from their behaviours. These astounding experiences are an every day occurrence for us, and its a privilege to be able to share them with our guests . Saying that, no day is ever the same – everything depends on the weather – the tides, the seasons, the wildlife, the flowers…
How does Canada inspire you?
We’ll never tire of the opportunities this country provides us with. The opportunities to see, experience and learn about incredible wildlife. To live in truly wild places –so many of which are still unspoiled and untouched. Yes the world is modernising at a rapid pace, but even now, Canada boasts huge swathes of land that remains sparsely populated and is rarely explored.
Why would you encourage people to visit Canada?
There are so many reasons to visit; incredible wildlife viewing opportunities, the chance to exist for a time somewhere completely remote and uncrowded. And, of course, Canada is the best place in world to experience Polar Bears up close. Oh, and it’s also an alternative place to see the Northern Lights. We could go on all day.
In particular, why would you encourage people to visit Manitoba?
Nowhere else in the world can you get this close to Polar Bears, and nowhere else in the world can you swim with beluga whales. Surely that’s enough reason to visit?
What sort of images can we expect from your camera roll?
Whether they’re taken from a boat, on land or from the window of a plane, our photos will be spontaneous and thrilling and give you an insight into what it’s like to be up close and personal with bears and belugas.
If you could sum up your daily life in one sentence, how would you describe it?
Absolutely unique – we can say with confidence that there’s no one else that has these daily life experiences. From the people we meet to the wildlife we watch to the scenery we admire; Manitoba is one of the world’s most unique and thrilling destinations.
Finally, how would you describe Canada in three words?
Natural. Inspiring. Untamed.
