If you love the idea of authentic Texan culture and all the exciting and unique experiences that come with it, then you’re going to love Fort Worth. A city at the heart of all things truly Western, this is the place to come for the romance of the cowboy era (and some epic BBQ’s). In addition to the famous Stockyards and rodeo shows, Fort Worth is also home to some of the best sporting events, and even classical music performances, in the state. Yep, it’s really that diverse. So, to make sure you get a real taste for this wonderful city, we’ve created a short list of our favorite Fort Worth experiences. Enjoy.
The Texas Motor Speedway
Want to throw yourself into the vibrant energy of Fort Worth? Head down to the Texas Motor Speedway and catch one of the most popular sports in America. Embrace the world of NASCAR as you watch the nation’s best racing drivers hit speeds that’ll make you feel giddy as they compete for major trophies. The venue’s biggest events are the Duck Commander 500 NASCAR, Firestone 600 INDY/NASCAR and AAA Texas 500 NASCAR, with other nail biting competitions running throughout the year.
Experience a slice of the Wild West at Stockyard’s Gunfighter; the closest you’ll ever get to witnessing an authentic Western shoot out. Whether you’re five or 95, here you can learn the shooting skills you need to hit Gun Slingers, Zombies and Aliens at this interactive event. As a novice to the cowboy world, you will use a laser gun to practice tricks that will ensure you never miss a target. Safety always comes first at the Gunfighter and with no live fire you can enjoy this thrilling activity in the knowledge that won’t have to dodge any bullets.
In Fort Worth, Rodeo is more than just a performance; it’s at the heart of Texan culture and a very competitive sport. And at Championship Rodeo you can get a piece of the action in the iconic Cowtown Coliseum. Cheer along and watch in awe as riders use all their strength to stay on top of the bucking bulls. Like any sport, this one also requires team work, so you’ll also catch these cowboys working together for the exhilarating team roping challenge.
Bass Performance Hall
Beyond the traditional experiences that grace this cowboy town, you can also watch some of the world’s best opera at the Bass Performance Hall. Home to top resident companies, this beautiful venue hosts a wonderful array of productions. For a more elegant night out, there is an incredible calendar of upcoming events including the Canadian pianist Marc-Andre Hamlin, and Ben Stevenson’s ballet, Dracula; both set to be a hit.
