It’s one thing getting the little ones up and out onto the slopes, but what about when energy runs low? Aspen Snowmass is rife with family-friendly eateries, so here is our list of the best places to feed those hungry mouths.
SONGS AND STORIES BY THE CAMPFIRE
What could be more magical than toasting marshmallows and drinking hot chocolate as you sing songs and listen to stories around a campfire? Okay, maybe it’s not the most nutritious meal, but it’s a very good way warm the cockles after a day in the snow. Wander down to Snowmass Mall on a Monday or Wednesday afternoon to discover a truly Coloradan experience that you’ll all remember long after the vacation is over.
ASPEN OVER EASY
Anything with ‘easy’ in the name is a winner. This is a great place for grabbing breakfast at any time of the day. You’ll find a colorful array of food and freshly-made juices to entice even the fussiest of eaters – and should the grown-ups need something a bit stronger, there’s a rather delicious cocktail menu too.
NEW YORK PIZZA
In our experience, pizza is a guaranteed hit with kids; and few places do it better than Aspen’s New York Pizza joint. If you’re not lured through the door by the crispy bases, loaded with toppings and lashings of melted cheese, then it’ll be the vibrant, laid-back atmosphere. This place is totally comfortable in its own skin, and that’s why we love it.
LYNN BRITT CABIN
Just at the end of Velvet Falls you will find this charming ski cabin, the perfect place to take time out while you tuck into a warming meal. They serve a variety of truly Coloradan dishes, using the likes of elk and bison, which you can enjoy on their patio as you look out at the mountain view. We also recommend a snow cat dinner excursion to Lynn Britt.
A visit to Aspen isn’t complete without a meal at Hickory House Ribs, a local favorite that is famous for (any guesses?)… That’s right, its utterly delicious BBQ ribs. The alpine restaurant has an infectious buzz to it day and night, so you can soak up the atmosphere while indulging in platters of their signature dishes. But one small warning: sticky fingers are de rigueur here.
ALPINE INSPIRED CUISINE
For more of a treat, and to soak up the mountain atmosphere with some Alpine-inspired cuisine, book a table at The Edge Bar & Restaurant in Snowmass. Chef Jason DeBacker’s German plays a heavy influence on the, which is sure to be a hit for all the family. Think cheese fondue, homemade sausages and traditional schnitzel, and all with a healthy Colorado-style Farm to Table focus.
