Sitting between Québec City to the east and westerly Montréal you’ll find the region of Mauricie, cut through by the St. Maurice River. In vast swathes of wilderness the area is a real treat for all those with an outdoor activity addiction but who enjoy luxury too. The region is jam packed with luxury wilderness resorts, so you’ll be well and truly spoilt for choice. The area also has some great history – with its first inhabitants being the nomadic hunter-gatherer-fisherman from 6000 years ago and whose cultures are still evident in the wealth of the region’s top things to do.
Get to know your inner cowboy, get out and about in a canoe or go more extreme with some kite surfing and an off-road quad bike ride. Camp overnight in traditional Mongolian yurts, take a birds-eye flight over the magnificent lakes, rivers and immense forests. In the winter get your snowsuits on and roll around in the white stuff. Hop on a horse-drawn sleigh or make your eyeballs pop out with some para-skiing – not for the feint hearted.
This whole region is one giant playground waiting to be discovered by even the most demanding of thrill seekers. There are over 17,500 lakes in the area – one of which is UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve Lake St.Pierre. Relax in one of the countless spas, all with a distinct Scandanavian feel to them. The essence of the Québécois comes from regions just like Mauricie – beautiful, and brimming with adventure and emotion. A great earthly paradise so easily accessible, less than two hours from Québec City and Montréal.
