With its relaxed and homely feel, you’ll fall in love fast with Vancouver as you discover its culinary, retail and natural delights…
At a glance
Living like a local is almost inevitable when it comes to visiting Vancouver. Be assured that Black Tomato knows the perfect places for you to rest your head, but we are also pretty confident in local knowledge when it comes to time spent away from your accommodation. Think kooky suburbs and one-off eateries and boutiques found on the side-street behind that inconspicuous building.
What to see
Head to downtown Vancouver for some beach time; a no doubt unexpected addition to any visit to Canada. English Bay is a particular highlight. Not only does it play host to one of the oldest and most popular New Year’s Day ‘swimathons’ in Canada, but (for those that fancy slightly less chilly memories) head there in the summer months to witness the world’s biggest offshore firework display – the Celebration of Light, held annually.
Vancouver’s suburbs are your next port of call. Recently voted one of the coolest suburbs to live in internationally, Gastown cannot be denied a visit. One-off restaurants litter the streets and its boutiques and pop-up shops house some of the best locally-designed pieces. West Vancouver is the hotspot for bespoke home décor boutiques, infusing international and locally-sourced pieces that could see you redecorating back home.
Yaletown is Vancouver’s renovated warehouse district, providing you with heritage trails to follow by day and the freshest waterholes to reside in come sundown. George’s considers itself the godfather of Yaletown cocktail lounges, with its fresh fruits, herbs and homemade syrups going into both the classic and their more inventive tipples.
Why we love it
Vancouver is like that friend we all have who can make complete strangers feel as if they’ve known each other for years, and its easy going vibe makes you feel at home despite your initial lack of familiarity. Equally, it provides countless opportunities guaranteed to create memories that only local knowledge can inspire – and you know how much Black Tomato loves to offer that.
