Québec Winter Carnival
You might have Rio Carnival in Brazil, Carnevale in Venice, but this Winter Carnival is truly something out of this world. In its 59th year think winter sports, huge ice sculptures and other Québécois activities like canoe races on the frozen St. Lawrence River and dog sledding competitions. Drink caribou (red wine laced with whiskey and maple syrup – a far cry from the Caribou blood based drink made in a similar way many moons ago), build snowmen, eat from specially crafted restaurant menus and join in with the good times. Everything is planned as a sure fire way to warm your cockles during the cold winter weather.
Montréal Highlights Festival
A feast for the all the senses, this event is usually held against a backdrop of snow. It combines performances from orchestras, dance groups, theater productions and some of the city’s best restaurants and hotels coming together to light up the winter with is heady mix of visual arts. Lighting designers amongst others showcase their latest work and the city comes alive in a blaze of merry entertainment.
