How long
Escape to an untouched Caribbean haven. At this exclusive privately-owned Antigua resort you’ll get the barefoot luxury of an eco-chic hotel with all the creature comforts of a five-star resort. The perfect antidote to the hectic daily grind.
Location
Tucked into a bay in one of the most secluded corners of southwest Antigua, Hermitage Bay is 16 acres of lush tropical gardens and impeccable natural beauty. With nothing but glistening sea and rolling hillsides in every direction, it’s hard to imagine that the bustling capital of St John’s lies just 40 mins away. Perched on one of the most stunning protected beaches in Antigua, you’ll have over 1,250 feet of white sands sprinkled with seashells in delicate pastel shades as your stomping ground— ideal for a spot of yoga or meditation—while the bay’s natural mangroves and turquoise waters are perfect for snorkelling and exploring by kayak.
Your room
With just 25 luxury cottages and suites, even when the resort is at full capacity you’ll still have this island paradise almost completely to yourself. Choose between a spacious split-level cottage just meters from the beach, or a sumptuous hillside pool suite deep within verdant hills. The décor may be minimalist, but the amenities are far from rustic — all the rooms feature a wrap-around sundeck, king size beds dressed in white Italian linen, iPod docking stations, flatscreen TVs and Wi-Fi. Our favorite abodes are the hillside pool suites which offer a secluded plunge pool with spectacular panoramas of the bay below between darkwood lattices covered in flowering vines.
Why we like it
This is an eco-retreat truly committed to caring for its natural surroundings but with the atmosphere of a members-only boutique hotel. Here you can dine on delicious locally-sourced authentic cuisine, prepared to order every day, or hop onto a helicopter for a private island tour. As well as using solar energy to power the hotel, the entire estate was built with sustainably sourced materials designed to blend in with its naturally incredible setting. Man-made sounds are kept to an absolute minimum so that you can wake up to nothing but the natter of tropical birds and the murmur of the crystal sea. As a result, the low light happens to make for an incredible evening of stargazing. This is eco-chic done brilliantly.
