The clocks run on time. There are three official languages. It plays host to some decidedly Neolithic archaeological sites – great houses of timber whose elevated floors were pummelled into the lake beds of Zurich and Constance. There is a large Hadron collider here, doing unspeakable things to molecules far beneath the earth. This is a tawdry introduction to what is, in fact, a jaw-dropping and effortlessly stylish vacation destination, where the hotels are bright and the food is spectacular. Probably thanks to Switzerland’s handy disposition between France, Italy, and Germany.
A vacation to Switzerland is – by dint of the country’s effortless service and impeccable taste – already high on the luxury scale. Interlaken
A fairy-tale town, and the adventure capital of Switzerland.
Built on a narrow stretch of valley, between Lake Thun and Lake Brienz, and surrounded by alpine meadows and mountains, Interlaken is a breath of fresh air. With lots of hiking trails and adrenaline-pumping activities like skydiving to get stuck into, Interlaken tempts those travellers seeking a thrill. We’ll take you to the iconic cogwheel train at Grindelwald to tackle some steep gradients and kilometre-long tunnels, as you make your way up to Europe’s highest railway station.
St Moritz
Switzerland’s original winter wonderland.
Nestled in Switzerland’s Engadin Valley, the alpine town of St Moritz sits between a glistening lake and a ring of mountains, and is simply stunning. Arrive via the Glacier Express and get stuck into exploring the town, valley – and food scene – with the help of our local guide, Gabriel. The best time to visit Switzerland depends on what you want from the trip. For skiing and winter sports, December to March delivers reliable snow across Zermatt, St Moritz, and Verbier.
