From Hanoi in the north to Ho Chi Minh in the south, welcome to one of the world’s most colorful countries.
Long, geographically diverse and steeped in complex war-time history, our luxury vacations to Vietnam cook up a storm of culture and cuisine. From Hanoi and Hoi An, running wild with tantalising street food vendors, to the balmy beaches and dramatic scenery of Halong Bay, this is a chance to immerse yourself in one of the world’s most characterful destinations. Our guides, like Phi and Quang, will take you subway to the iconic Cui Chi tunnels ahead of local farm visits to learn the ropes of Vietnamese agriculture. We’ve handpicked a host of lavish hotels and tropical retreats for your arrival, from cottages in the midst of the Mekong to stylish hotels along Hanoi’s most charming street.
As ever, if you can’t see it here then we can still plan it for you.
Vietnam is a place where natural beauty and ancient history live side by side. Zip through verdant rice paddies in the beautiful Ninh Binh countryside by bike, soar above the colorful fishing boats and turquoise waters of Halong Bay via private helicopter, or take an army Jeep to Cu Chi to explore the compact war-time tunnels.
There’s no wonder this magical landscape is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Shrouded in mystery and beauty, this special region of Vietnam consists of over 2,000 islands sprouting from breathtaking emerald waters. Jump on-board a junk boat and glide over these iconic waters for a couple of nights to discover the scattered islands, fishing villages and green grottos.
Beautiful Chinese temples, picturesque riverside restaurants, and unhurried dreamy atmosphere; Hoi An is Vietnam’s most enchanting coastal town. After a leisurely bike ride through the old town and its lush rice paddies, we’ll arrange for you to take to the seas with a local fisherman before learning how to master grilled fish in a banana leaf. Take a romantic stroll around the ancient town bathed in the glow of the monthly light festival before indulging in a private dinner at Aubergine49, where chef Nguyen Nhu Thinh will floor you with his ‘eur-asian’ fusion cuisine.
On the waters of the pretty Perfume River sits the imperial city of Hue, waiting to win you over with its tranquil ambiance, ancient citadels, and classical monuments. Our best guides will take you across the former royal capital, stopping off at the tombs of ancient emperors, including that of Khai Dinh on the outskirts of Hue. End your day with a private dining experience at Kim Long, where the light, elegant, and imperial dishes that define Hue are just as impressive as its secluded woodland location and regal interiors.
Head south from Ha Long Bay on the Ylang luxury cruise boat to see the splendour of Lan Ha Bay – just as easy on the eye but the crowds haven’t added it to their itineraries. Drift around its famous limestone outcrops and remote beaches and try to catch snaps of the local wildlife including seals and three species of dolphins as you head towards an authentic floating market in the fishing village of Cát Bà Island. End your day with a gourmet, multi-course dinner before retiring to your luxurious suite atop the water.
The best street food scene in Vietnam.
Blaring horns, sizzling street food and partygoers dancing into the night; these are the scenes one can expect while visiting Vietnam’s bustling capital. However, to really get under Hanoi’s skin, we’ve got the perfect man for the job. Meet American food writer and chef, Daniel Hoyer. Led on a tasty tour of the city, you’ll sample a range of flavors from nem cuon appetizers (fresh spring rolls) at Cho Hom Market to pho cuon (grilled beef and rice noodle roll) at Truc Bach Lake. After some traditional pho at his favorite restaurant, it’s time to sit back at Hanoi’s liveliest jazz club.
Where history is woven through with handmade silk.
An ancient riverside town scattered with narrow alleys, traditional houses and some of Asia’s most skilled tailors – it’s hard to leave Hoi An without a brimming suitcase of custom-made garments. We’ve entrusted Quang Le, one of our top guides in Hoi An to show you the ways of the local farmers on a day trip to a Vietnamese herb farm nearby. Here you’ll bicycle through rich countryside, get your hands dirty in the vegetable garden and learn traditional rice grinding methods.
Ho Chi Minh
Head subway to the Cu Chi Tunnels.
Discovering the hidden secrets of Ho Chi Minh, otherwise known as Saigon, is a memory we keep playing over in our heads. A city steeped in history and renowned for its focal role in the Vietnam War, your guide Phi will whisk you off to Cu Chi Tunnels to gain a deeper understanding of Vietnam’s 20th-century conflicts. A network of 200km tunnels with countless trap doors and booby traps, you’ll crawl subway to see just where the Viet Cong soldiers stored their weapons.
