Australia

Halcyon House, Cabarita Beach

A moment in time capturing the essence of carefree summer days, Halcyon House is Australia at its most idyllic. Sitting atop the silken sands of Cabarita Beach, you’ll find 21 rooms and suites decorated with a unique flair, an award-winning restaurant where simplicity is the order of the day and a spa that will leave you more blissed out than ever before. Halcyon House hits the right note for just about everyone who walks through its doors, whether they be a gourmand, an aesthete or a surfer. Stay here and see your days take on a rose-tinted hue as time moves in slow motion and the sun beats down from a cloudless sky. Summer, sorted.

Location

In northeast New South Wales, Cabarita Beach is a gorgeous swathe of sand fringing the famous waters of Australia’s Coral Sea. A 15-minute drive from Gold Coast Airport and 30 from the legendary Byron Bay, you’re in good company here. The area is undoubtedly beautiful, though a little lesser known than its neighbors. Make the most of the quieter coastline with a walk up to Norries Headland, through the coastal rainforest and past the surfing pointbreaks to enjoy the views that extend both north and south along the coastline.

Your Room

With each of the 21 rooms and suites individually designed by designer Anna Spire in her signature eclectic style, Halcyon House has built up quite the cult Instagram following. Antique furniture, fabric upholstered walls and king-size beds backed by whimsical headboards; the result is a real treat for the eyes. But it’s certainly not form over function here with the rooms all as luxuriously comfortable as they are beautiful. You need only check into one of the Master rooms and look out from the ocean-facing private balcony or sink into the large soaking tub to see for yourself.

Why we like it

Halcyon House is so much more than a picture-perfect stay with access to some of New South Wales’s best pointbreaks. Under the watchful eye of Noma alumn, Ben Devlin, the chic hotel restaurant, Paper Daisy, has become a destination in itself. Snapping up awards since the day it opened, the restaurant serves up imaginative dishes at every hour of the day, from dusk ’till dawn. We’ll never forget the beachfront dinner we enjoyed here – but you’ll find us coming back time and again for those ricotta-topped crumpets at breakfast.
