La Verrière, Provence

Nestled within its own vineyard, producing honey from its own beehives and teaching you the rules of petanque, life doesn’t get much more Provencal than at La Verrière. A medieval priory lovingly restored to give a modern touch in a traditional setting, it’s an intimate affair with just seven rooms and suites. Spend your days enjoying picnics among acres of woodlands and perusing the nearby market towns before an evening dining anywhere from the medieval dining room to the rose patio or winery rooftop, with a private chef to craft the menu.

Location

A 45-minute drive from Avignon, La Verrière is picture-perfect Provence. Set within a mountain saddle overlooking miles of olive groves, apricot orchards, lavender and sunflowers fields; it’s worthy of any Van Gogh painting. Just 15 minutes from nearby Vaison-la-Romaine, but you’ll scarcely want to leave with the vines of Chene Bleu on your doorstep. Head out on a tour before continuing down into the cellars for a tutored tasting of their ‘old-school-meets-new-world’ wines.

Your Room

Taking inspiration from different Provencal icons, the four suites and three guestrooms at La Verrière each feature their own unique design. Whether that’s the honeyed tones of Abeilles, the fresh look of Lavande or the sun-drenched terrace of Tournesol, each oozes effortless elegance. With just seven rooms, La Verrière is perfect for that family get-together you’ve been planning, with space for 18 of your nearest and dearest and this charming house to call your own for a week or two.

Why we like it

You’re invited to become one of the family at La Verrière with a year-round calendar of events designed to bring out the Provencal skill you never know you had. Life revolves around the harvest here, whether that’s honey in spring, lavender in summer, olives in autumn or truffles in winter. Wine, meanwhile, you’ll quickly learn to be a year-round labour of love, with pruning, trimming and lifting all to come before the autumn harvest. At the end of it all, reap the rewards with flavors worth dirtying your hands for.
