An Adventure Across Iceland

In a land of natural wonders and striking Viking heritage, the spirit of adventure runs deep in Iceland; beneath lava fields covered in ripe moss, across snow-coated glaciers marked with “troll candles”.

On this adrenaline-fuelled adventure, we’ll take you (quite literally) beneath the surface of dormant Thrihnukagigur volcano, to the looming glaciers of Tindfjallajökull and Eyjafjallajökull, and the bubbling mud springs of Krýsuvík. And with every step, you’ll be led by some of the best and bravest guides that Iceland has to offer. Let’s begin.

Reykjavik

Your adventure begins in Reykjavik, Iceland’s strikingly modern capital. Located in the Bay of Smokes, this settlement – once a small fishing village and trading post – is the primary settlement in Iceland. Colorful corrugated roofs, vinyl stores, and craft breweries. Heated by hot water piped from nearby hot springs and overlooking the glistening waters of Faxaflói Bay flanked by the flat-topped Mount Esja, nature is always at your fingertips.

Day 1
Your arrival in the "Bay of Smokes"

Touching down in Keflavik International Airport, you’ll be met by your private guide. They’ll take you to the heart of Reykjavik, Iceland’s stylishly modern capital – and Marriott Reykjavik Edition, your elegant home for the next two nights. You’ll spend your first day and night seeing the city through a culinary lens. As you tuck in, you’ll discover the main elements of the Icelandic diet that have existed for over a thousand years: fish, lamb, and skyr.

Day 2
Into the depths

Today, you’ll delve beneath the surface. 400ft, to be exact. After hiking through black lava fields, we’ll take you down into the depths of the nearby dormant Thrihnukagigur volcano. Descending via an open elevator system, a subterranean world will unfurl before you: earth-hued craters and vast magma chambers. Later, you’ll to the skies by helicopter; soaring over the neighboring Eyjafjallajökull volcano before returning to the city.

Days 3-5

The Southwest

A mesmerising corner of Iceland, the Southwest – encompassing the city of Reykjavik and its environs – is best known for being home to the Blue Lagoon, the Golden Circle, and the black sand beach of Reynisfjara. It’s an adventurer’s playground. And a hiker’s paradise. Filled with geysers, waterfalls, and glaciers.

Day 3
Into the Icelandic Highlands

Leaving Reykjavik behind, you’ll embark on a super jeep adventure into the heart of Thórsmörk valley – traversing gushing rivers, lush green gorges, and three looming glaciers: Tindfjallajökull, Eyjafjallajökull, and Mýrdalsjökull. You’ll picnic here, in the wild, before pulling up at the secluded Torfhús Retreat – a collection of turf-covered houses honouring Viking tradition. Over the next few nights, you’ll spend your evenings relaxing in the steamy waters of your outdoor basalt stone pool and dining on gastronomic delights in the candlelit Viking Langhús (“long house”).

Day 4
The call of the sea

With rocky Reynisdrangar (so-called trolls believed to have been turned into stone sea stacks), Iceland’s south coast is the stuff of legends. You’ll wade through the jet-black sand of Reynisfjara, explore charming coastal villages, and stand beneath (and above) majestic waterfalls like Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss. Then, you’ll swap salty waters for icy expanses, navigating the glacial tongue of Sólheimajökull. Crampons on, cameras ready.

Day 5
Of gold and tomatoes

A geothermal route like no other, we’ll show you the Golden Circle from fresh perspectives; catching the tectonic plates of Thingvellir national park at sunrise and drinking from natural pools beside secret waterfalls known only to locals. Then, lunch at Friðheimar, a family-run tomato farm with sustainability at its core; providing you with a fascinating (and delicious) insight into the workings of geothermal horticulture.

Days 6-7

The Northwest

Lesser visited yet steeped in legend, the Northwest is historic, being one of the first places where the original settlers dwelled. It’s also the setting for many an epic Icelandic saga, including Egill, Gisli, and Eirikur the Red. It’s isolated and breathtaking. For those seeking the ultimate off-the-grid feeling, this is the place.

Day 6
To the northern wilds

Saying farewell to Torfhús, it’s time for a quick 45-minute flight to Akureyri – the capital of the North. From here, you’ll head deeper into the northern wilderness and to the remote mountains of Fljot Valley. Deplar Farm, formerly a sheep farm, is among the most remote retreats in this corner of Iceland, and it’ll be your home for the next two nights. Encircled by mountains and a glistening lake, you’ll sit back, relax, and breathe it all in.

Day 7
Take a walk on the wild side

Situated on the mountainous, isolated Troll Peninsula, Deplar Farm offers a dazzling array of ways to explore the wilderness. Take your pick – and we’ll arrange the rest. You could try your hand at snowmobiling, whale watching, horse riding, kayaking, and surfing. The list goes on. And on. Just say the word and we’ll make it happen.

Days 8-10

Reykjanes

A small headland on the southernmost tip of the Reykjanes Peninsula, Reykjanes is renowned for its diversity of volcanic and geothermal activity. And enchanting retreats. The last few days of your trip will be spent here – in lunar landscapes, and in the milk-blue waters of the Blue Lagoon.

Day 8
Turn up the heat

A quick flight back to Reykjavik and it’s time for more exploration. This time, through the ruggedly beautiful Reykjanes Peninsular and its Krýsuvík geothermal area. You’ll see bubbling mud springs, endless lava fields, hot springs, and moon-like volcanic craters. Then, we’ll take you to your final destination: the Blue Lagoon Retreat. A mesmerising spa and hotel, this is the perfect balm after Iceland’s windswept wilds.

Day 9
Healing waters

One night at the Blue Lagoon Retreat is nice. Two is better. On your penultimate day, you’ll spend your time indulging in unique spa treatments inspired by the wild natural surroundings (black sand scrubs, ‘float’ therapy, and bioactive rituals) and dining on Michelin starred Icelandic cuisine crafted from the freshest local ingredients. Healing waters. A subterranean spa. Gourmet cuisine. Luxurious suites. You’ll experience them all in blissful seclusion. Here, relaxation is the order of the day.

Day 10
A timeless saga

The end of an adventure is never easy. But, as you leave the wilds of Iceland behind, we can’t help but think this story isn’t over yet. There are more legends to unravel and more characters to meet. Your Icelandic saga hasn’t reached its grand finale. This is only the beginning.
