The Lotus Houseboat, Kerala
The best way to explore Kerala’s backwaters? Without a doubt, it has to be onboard the luxurious and unique Lotus Houseboat. Once used to transport rice and goods through God’s own country, this stunning boat has now been converted into a luxurious mobile hideaway on the water. Think crisp ethnic décor, polished wooden floors, spacious living spaces, and a gorgeous deck to sink into whilst enjoying the views.
Location
Board the luxurious Lotus Houseboat from the shores of the backwaters of Malabar, the undiscovered jewel of northern Kerala. After that, all that’s left to do is simply set sail through the enchanting waters of beautiful southern India and uncover its secrets.
Your room
The rich, vibrant tones of the cushions and carefully-selected artwork add touches of color to the white walls onboard Lotus. Meanwhile, with dark wood floors and wonderfully welcoming cotton sheets, you won’t believe you’re on a houseboat in the middle of the Kerala backwaters. With rooms appropriately named ‘Sukhima’ and ‘Lalima’, their meanings translating as ‘happiness’ and ‘beauty’ respectively, have never summed up this unique experience better.
Why we like it
We love the access that the Lotus Houseboat gives you. As you glide through small canals, you’ll pass remote villages that are inaccessible by car. Sit back on the deck and watch life go by as children play in the waters, farmers shepherd thousands of ducks, rice is plucked from the paddy fields and fisherman silently fish by their lights at night. Truly the best way to get up close and personal in Kerala.
