Oberoi Grand, Kolkata
Oberoi Grand welcomes you with open arms to Kolkata, the ‘City of Joy’. And joyous you will be in an accommodation that exudes as much cultural history as the city that surrounds it, meaning you’ll feel totally absorbed into this charming yet grand hotel. A mix of classic style and modern facilities make Oberoi Grand the ideal place to rest your head on your trip to the city.
Location
Just under an hour’s drive from Kolkata International Airport you’ll arrive at your haven in this colorful city. What’s more, situated on the edge of The Maidan, Kolkata’s largest urban park, you’ll be within walking distance of many of the city’s most historical colonial heritage sites. From Fort William to the Victoria Memorial, soak up all the sights before catching a spot of cricket at the Eden Gardens, India’s largest cricket stadium. We love the Indian Museum, just minutes from your accommodation, and housing some of the country’s most notable archaeology and art whilst also being a stunning spectacle in itself.
Your room
Be transported back in time to unrefined elegance in your room, the pièce de résistance in this palatial colonial villa. From high ceilings to four-poster beds made of rich wood, your room exudes indulgence. And with an astounding 209 rooms, you really are spoilt for choice. Our favorite is the Presidential Suite, replete with hand-knotted carpets and red granite bathrooms that will make it that much harder to venture beyond your door.
Why we like it
Attention to detail stands tall at Oberoi Grand. If all the hustle and bustle of the outside world gets too much, why not seek solitude and serenity at Oberoi’s spa, complete with antique lamps and rich teak floors to add to the opulence of your treatment. The hotel’s centerpiece swimming pool, surrounded by palm trees and British-style street lamps that light up the area by night, is not worth missing. Choose to recline by the water to the sound of beautiful birdsong, or treat yourself to an intimate dining experience poolside. The possibilities really are endless.
