Portrait Firenze, Florence

As natural born travelers we at Black Tomato have a drive to constantly be on the move, however, Portrait Firenze is one hotel in Florence we would strongly consider residency at. A salute to haute couture, Portrait Firenze is the essence of class. Boasting panoramic views over the Arno River and the saffron hues of Florence, this boutique all-suite residence that forms part of the Salvatore Ferragamo Lungarno Collection, is guaranteed luxury.

Location

At the heart of the ancient city of Florence, sitting on the banks of the Arno River, just steps from Ponte Vecchio, Portrait Firenze is in a simply fantastic location. Not just for the easy assess to a myriad of cultural sights such as the Piazza della Signoria or the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore either, but also for the intoxicating sense of energy that central Florence exudes. Twenty-minutes from the airport, it’s the perfect place for replacing the hustle and bustle of sight-seeing, with the peace and indulgence of five-star luxury.

Your room

Designer Michele Bönan has artfully woven marble into velvet to create 37 suites which epitomise chic Italian style to create an opulent and lavish enclave to call your own. Portrait is a place to sprawl out, with the smallest of suites starting at 40 sqm and running all the way up to 120 sqm in the largest, and all but one having a view of the iconic Ponte Vecchio bridge. With all the usual amenities including smart electronics, an iPad with an inbuilt pillow menu, and sumptuous beds you’ll never want to climb out of, it’s one classy pick.

Why we like it

Portrait Firenze is a hotel designed for spontaneity. You could quite literally turn up here with nothing but the clothes on your back and everything would be ok. The spacious suites here have quite literally everything you could need, from toothbrush kits and razors to straighteners and kitchenettes disguised as chic console cabinets. As for your closet? We’re sure Mr. Ferragamo can help you with that.

SUSTAINABILITY

The Lungarno Collection has collaborated with Clean The World to recycle unused soaps, encouraging other hospitality establishments to get involved in the programme. The collected shampoos and soaps are distributed to those around the world who do not have access to basic hygiene supplies. The group also takes on a plastic-free approach, replacing single-use plastics with biodegradable alternatives. Portrait Firenze also works with Angeli del Bello, a non-profit organisation, who support art and sustainability around the city and River Arno.
