Puglia: The Perfect Italian Getaway

How long
Fancy being the envy of colleagues around the coffee machine? Puglia should do the trick. Our favorite Italian getaway, we’ve been retreating down to the heel of Italy’s boot for several years now, but no matter how many times we dip our toes in those beautiful waters or wander through those quaint towns, we never tire of this charming part of Italy. So why not spend the summer (or the spring, winter or autumn for that matter) and hole up in our favorite Puglian paradise, Borgo Egnazia, for a week or so? Sunshine, culture and haute cuisine, it’s got everything for a relaxing and indulgent trip away.
Italian luxe
Nestled within olive groves, amid blossoming bougainvillaea and fragrant jasmine – and just a few hundred meters from the coastline with sweeping views of the Adriatic, we couldn’t think of a better place to while away our days than Borgo Egnzaia. In fact, we’d move in if we could. The hotel is part of a 49-acre luxury resort which resembles a traditional Puglian village and has been built using locally sourced stone and marble by the owners, the Melipignano family, who still live on the property.

Start PlanningRelax in style
Spend your days flitting between lounging by the open salt-water pools while attentive staff cater to your every whim and playing a relaxing round or two of golf by the sparkling Adriatic ocean. Whilst, for those looking to venture out of the resort, we’ll also arrange private day trips, complete with expert guides to the UNESCO World Heritage town of Alberobello, complete with its iconic Trulli buildings; whitewashed stone huts with charming conical roofs, and to Lecce where you’ll learn all about its unique Baroque architecture of Lecce. Why not make time for Matera too? Just across the regional border in neighboring Basilicata, this beautiful town is crammed full of history with its centuries-old cave settlements topped by elaborate architecture. Reminiscent of some of the first settlements, a stroll through the Città Sotterranea, or Subway City, will leave you feeling like an extra in a period drama.
Whether you choose to spend your days basking in the sunshine or grabbing a cultural fix, you can’t fail to be taken in by Puglia’s charm. Just like that, it will have you hooked. We’ll see you back here next year.
