Whether you’re looking for an adventure packed safari trip from start to finish or a beach-safari combo… or even if you’re just looking to recline into Indian Ocean paradise (who could blame you) then we can put together that perfect trip for you. We’ve put together just one of our favorite trips to Kenya so have a flick through the images or read on and expect to fall in love with this Africa jewel.
Out of Africa
Kick off the first leg of your Kenyan escape with a short domestic flight from Wilson Airport. Don’t be surprised to start your safari as you skim over the open savannah and wind your way through the bush to one of the most secluded safari lodges we have come across. Tucked high in a remote valley, overlooking some of the most wildlife abundant plains in the entire continent, you’ll feel as though you’ve finally made the trip to an old friend’s African hideaway. Welcome to Saruni Mara, with room for just a few guests, the intimacy of this lodge along with expert Maasai guides, make it a real stand out safari getaway.Read more
If you’re looking for a true out of Africa experience, this is indeed the place for you. Here you will have the unique opportunity to learn the ways of the wild, becoming a warrior for a week. Marvel as your Maasai guides pass on just a snippet of their accumulated ancestral wisdom and introduce you to their homeland. Your best opportunity is to rise early as the bush awakens and head out on foot or in one of the lodges open sided land rovers. Pass through the acacia dotted plains and deep in to lush mountain valleys as you learn the art of wildlife tracking.
Through the heat of the day retreat back to the lodge for a massage whilst giraffes graze from surrounding trees or take a stroll down to Hippo Beach, an isolated local watering hole, which as its name sake suggests is a favorite haunt of these cumbersome beauties. As the sun falls the bush is treated to a new lease of life as predators come out to play. Make the most of this with your second drive of the day followed by sundowners and tall tales out in the bush.
If you’ve timed your trip to perfection, you’ll have a front row seat to one of nature’s greatest spectacles. The Great Migration. Be awe-inspired as 1.3 million wildebeest (from the neighboring Serengeti) thunder into the Maasai in search of pastures new. What follows this is perhaps even more breath-taking, the migration breathes new life in to the plains and with it many a chance for some lion and cheetah spotting.
On your final morning gain a wholly different perspective of this spectacular wilderness as you take to the skys, drifting silently in the dawn light over grazing herds on a balloon safari. Once you’ve said your goodbyes to your new found maasai friends we’ll fly you towards Kenya’s shimmering coast for some surprisingly much needed rest and relaxation.
Sure you’ve considered it on many occasions, but what three essentials would you take should you find yourself destitute on a desert island? Well fear not, at Kinondo Kwetu get cast away and want for nothing all at the same time. The family behind this beautifully rustic property have made it their lives work to make a home away from home in the Indian Ocean for both themselves and their guests. And feel at home you will.
Spend a few days gently moving between palm fringed sapphire waters and the welcome shade of your veranda. Take your meals in company or find some secret little spot, there is no formal dining room, so gorge on the menu of delectable seafood however you choose. And if you’re not quite done with Kenya’s wildlife the property offers a prime opportunity for scuba diving or for any adrenaline junkies the area offers perfect wind and kite surfing conditions.
So there you have it. Our perfect bush to beach Kenyan escape.
