Huka Lodge, Taupo

Sitting peacefully on the banks of the Waikato River, Huka Lodge combines the rustic beauty of a traditional lodge with the sophisticated elegance of any Relais & Chateaux property. For the stylish traveller who still wants to be part of the action, you can’t go wrong with this elegant retreat. Cosy up in one of the 20 suites and cottages and spend your days indulging in the best of New Zealand’s outdoor pursuits.

Location

Tucked away amid snowcapped peaks and lush wilderness, Huka Lodge is a peaceful retreat on the banks of the Waikato River, just upstream from Huka Falls. Just a ten minutes’ drive from Taupo Airport in New Zealand’s North Island and you’ll find yourself in a serene and iconic woodland paradise. Or, if it’s as much about the journey as the destination for you – hit the road and enjoying a scenic four-hour cruise down from Auckland.

Your room

The 20 suites and two Owner’s Cottages of Huka Lodge are all beautifully appointed, each offering privacy, local art and features and spellbinding views. If you’re looking for the next level of privacy and exclusivity – or just space for all the family, we loved the Alan Pye Cottage. Almost completely hidden from view, with four guest rooms and a dreamy cantilevered infinity pool, it’s the perfect place to relax.

Why we like it

Huka Lodge is New Zealand hospitality at its finest. Whether arranging a private helicopter over the volcanoes, a fly fishing expedition, or even a spa treatment, the staff will go above and beyond to ensure you’re well looked after throughout your time here. Give it a couple of days, a couple of hours even, and we can guarantee you’ll never want to leave.
