Far from being an arctic desert, this majestic part of the USA is home to bold, unforgiving scenery, abundant wildlife and adrenaline-fuelled activities to match. We’ve put together a jam-packed trip to ensure you make the most of Alaska – the ultimate traveler’s destination.

Time to lay anchor

Touching down on your first day in the USA’s northernmost city and the economic heart of Alaska, Anchorage, you’ll get straight to the heart of this coastal town by private transfer from the airport. What better way to start your trip than gorging on the freshest Alaskan King Salmon at one of the city’s famed seafood restaurants, with panoramic views over the mountainous Alaska Range and Mount Susitna.

Make this itinerary yours

Each and every Black Tomato trip is tailored exactly to who you are and what you want to do So tell us about yourself and we’ll create something that’s entirely you.

Start Planning

Mount McKinley’s mastery

Waking early the next day, you’ll be taking the infamous Alaska Railroad train to Denali National Park – over 6 million acres of practically untouched, unspoiled wilderness, and the epitome of Alaskan beauty. Relax in your luxury dome car seating, soaking in the sights as you meander towards the snowy peaks of the tallest mountain in North America, Mount McKinley, steaming through the picturesque town of Talkeetna. Settle in for a relaxing evening at the loftiest hotel in the area, the Grande Denali Lodge, set on the slopes of Sugarloaf Mountain overlooking the Nenana River Canyon, and your playground for the next three days.

Flora and fauna

After a morning exploring Wonder Lake by bike, it’s time to put your photographic skills to the test as you move deeper into this wild, beautiful park. Expert guides will aid in the search for local flora and fauna on the way whilst imparting the impressive history of the area, so make sure you keep an eye out for moose, bear, caribou, lynx and wolves. As the road is closed to the general public you’ll have the enviable privilege of enjoying the spectacular views to yourself, and on arrival, when you finally drag your eyes away from your new backdrop, rest your head in cabins made from Alaska white spruce logs at Kantishna Roadhouse.

Truly soak up the beauty of the heart of Denali during your day here –turn your phone off, set off on a day-long hike and really get back to nature before taking a scenic flight back to Anchorage the next day with spectacular aerial views of the expansive mountain range and park.

Snowy summits

Day six of your epic Alaskan adventure takes you to the stunning alpine scenery of year-round skiing town Girdwood. Originally named Glacier City, the town was once a supply camp for gold miners but is now home to the renowned luxury hotel of the Alyeska Resort, your base for the next two days. From here you’ll experience the quintessential Alaskan adventure – a two-hour scenic helicopter flight to the glacier base camp used as a summer-time training ground for Iditarod sled dogs, followed by a breathtaking ride along a spectacular two-mile glacier trail. Mush to your heart’s content after a dreamy night’s sleep before heading to your final destination, Seward, courtesy of your very own private guide.

and chilly rivers

From Seward you’ll take a boat trip through the stunning waters of Kenai Fjords National park, taking in scenery that appears to have been designed with photographers and nature-lovers in mind. It’s up to you where the captain goes – the glaciers of the Northwestern Fjord, the waterfalls in Cataract Cove, the bird nesting sites of Resurrection Bay or the pristine waters of the Chiswell Island. It’s packed with the jaw-dropping scenes you’ve by now learnt to expect from Alaska.

On your penultimate day explore Seward at your leisure – bike along the seafront and harbor, breathing in all that fresh Alaskan air, or try your hand at catching the elusive Alaskan King Salmon one last time before you head back to Anchorage for your departure. As you buckle your seat belt on the plane home, relax your adrenaline-weary body and camera-worn index finger and rest assured that you’ve made the most of this wild state. The only remaining challenge is choosing which of the thousands of photos to show your green-eyed friends at next week’s dinner party. Tough crowd.
