It has two luxurious lodges, to choose from, the Manor or Karoo Lodge. With the Manor being ideal for families and large groups and Karoo Lodge being a romantic and lovingly restored 1800s homestead Samara is perfect for whatever type of vacation you want to take. Hole up in luxury at night and by day explore the vast plains on foot or by jeep with one of Samara’s expert rangers.
Location
Located in the Eastern Cape, Samara has its own airstrip and it’s only a 50 minute air transfer from Port Elizabeth airport. Or, if you’d prefer to admire the scenery from the ground, you can take a two and half hour drive from Port Elizabeth through rolling savannah and just sit back and relax.

Why we like it
What truly sets Samara apart is its unbeatable activities. Cheetah viewing and particularly cheetah tracking on foot is one of the reserve’s specialties and is an unforgettable experience. For the ultimate romantic experience you can have a helicopter picnic during the day on the ‘Samara Mara’ followed by a star bed sleep-out at night. Samara also takes conservation very seriously and has the ethos that when guests stay they become part of the ongoing conservation journey through animal re-introductions and the preservation of important habitat. It is one of only 2 private reserves in South Africa to have the desert-adapted black rhino, has recently introduced the elephant, and we are eagerly awaiting the introduction of the lion later in 2018.
