LOCATION

Balboa Bay Resort prides itself on its waterfront location. Overlooking softly bobbing jetties and a long line of yachts and sailboats, the views this property affords are second to none. The best of the local area is within easy reach, too. Just a five-minute drive in one direction to reach the vibrant Newport Beach Peninsula, here you’ll discover an array of restaurants, bars and boutiques, as well as the picturesque Newport Pier. Wander along this pier at any time of day and you’ll spot surfers, fishermen and paddle-boarders making the most of the sunshine and the surf.  Take a five-minute drive in the other direction from the resort and you’ll reach the charms of Balboa Island. The quirky houses of the island will make you feel as though you’ve just landed on a flawless film set, and you’ll also discover that this is the home of the famed Newport frozen banana, so be sure to get your hands on one.

YOUR ROOM

All of the rooms at Balboa Bay Resort recently underwent a full renovation, and the results are a true pleasure to behold. Blue hues continue the seaside theme throughout, whilst the super soft bedding will ensure you rest up well from your days out on the resort’s Duffy Boats or surfing along the wide sand beaches. Large marble bathrooms set the standard for luxury and, if you opt for a Bay View room or suite, you’ll be treated to some of the best views of the harbor anywhere in Newport Beach.

WHY WE LIKE IT

Balboa Bay Resort’s two restaurants, A&O Kitchen+Bar and Waterline, offer gourmet, coastal-inspired menus right by the water, and choosing between them was often a challenge. However, A&O became a particular favorite of ours, thanks to its warming and atmospheric fire pits and deliciously creative cocktails. Sitting alongside a line of super yachts beneath a sky full of stars as you sip on the hotel’s iconic ‘Stay Golden’ cocktail will never get boring. Trust us.
