The USA
Blackberry Farm, Tennessee
There are some secrets that are just too good to keep to yourself, and Blackberry Farm is definitely one of ours. Hidden in the misty foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains, it offers an idyllic county escape in America’s Deep South. So swap city lights for big blue skies and feel rejuvenated as you soak in the beautiful surroundings of this Tennessee treasure.
Location
With a stunning backdrop of dense forests and creeks, Blackberry Farm is 4,200 acres of pastoral bliss. The nearest city is a three-hour drive away, but luckily the Knoxville airport is nearby if you would rather skip the winding country lanes. A wealth of activities lie beyond the farm’s sheep-speckled fields. Hiking, fly-fishing, and canoeing are popular. Even hunting trips can be arranged if you fancy having a go at catching your own supper.
Your room
Being a farm, the entire estate radiates rustic charm. Whether you opt for a cottage suite, an estate room or even an entire house, you can be sure that your room will be gloriously warm and cozy. Feather beds, plush robes and wood-burning fireplaces lie invitingly next to walls adorned with fine art. Our favorite is the Holly Glade Cottage Suite which comes with a whirlpool tub and your own private covered porch complete with rocking chairs—the perfect spot to enjoy your morning coffee.
Why we like it
Anywhere that includes a baker, a cheese maker, a chocolatier and a jam lady (yes, a jam lady) among their staff certainly has our stamp of approval. Whether breakfasting on wildflower honey and farm-fresh eggs or spending an evening sampling artisan cheeses and handcrafted whiskeys, Blackberry Farm is a gastronomic Aladdin’s cave. There’s also the option of wine tastings and cooking courses, should the chef inside you suddenly take charge. One thing’s for sure, you won’t leave hungry.
