The USA
El Tovar
Opened in 1905, El Tovar retains its rustic elegance and charm, poised on the very edge of the magnificent Grand Canyon. Recognized as a National Historic Landmark, the hotel has hosted the likes of Roosevelt and Einstein; your stay visit will be as much about history and heritage as it will about the jaw dropping views. Despite its long history, the bedrooms have rushed into the 21st Century with all the modern amenities and creature comforts that we know you love. Activities here are, quite naturally, centerd around the canyon, mule rides down its sheer sides, extensive hiking and high adrenaline river rafting on the Colorado River.
location
Less than two hours drive from Flagstaff and the dazzling lights of Las Vegas, El Tovar never fails to amaze. The hotel perches right on the very rim of the Grand Canyon. At just over 5,000 foot deep, this cavernous gorge carved out over thousands of years by the mighty Colorado River, is a hub of activity during the day but come evening and the departing of the day trippers, El Tovar becomes a tranquil oasis in the desert. Oh and need we mention the views?
your room
Whilst the common areas of El Tovar look much as they did when its doors first opened, therustic yet luxurious rooms offer floor to ceiling windows with modern fittings to make your stay as comfortable as possible. From the huge comfy bed to the spacious sitting room, the clever folks at El Tovar really have thought of everything; how about a private balcony over the Grand Canyon anyone?
why we like it
Errrr the view…unparalleled in the US and possibly one of the best we have come across in the whole world. Waking up to an unobstructed view of the Grand Canyon is an image that will stay with you for a very long time. Couple this with an amazing rooftop garden, music room and art studio and we think we have stumbled across somewhere really special. The highlight for us was the helicopter flight from right outside the hotel over the stunning canyon.
