The USA
Mondrian South Beach Hotel
Let’s face it: Miami exudes glamor and is effortlessly chic, so it should appear inevitable that Mondrian South Beach is one of our favorite Atlantic retreats. All 335 rooms provide views of Miami and Biscayne Bay which blend seamlessly into the hotel’s wonderfully outrageous yet sophisticated décor, courtesy of revolutionary Dutch interior designer, Marcel Wanders. Oversized chandeliers, al-fresco dining, spa treatments, and peaceful surroundings…yet only minutes from the buzz of Miami: prepare to reside in the most fashion and design-forward stretch of American coastline.
Location
Mondrian South Beach allows you to divide your time between experiencing the buzz of Miami and appreciating the stunning views of the Atlantic Ocean and Biscayne Bay. Allow yourself to be whisked from Miami International or Fort Lauderdale Airport, taking under 20 minutes and 40 minutes. The hotel also provides 26 boat slips for yachts of up to 65-feet, allowing the hotel to cater for both brief and longer stays.Arrive to the sounds of one of Mondrian South Beach’s excellent DJs and later cross the bay to Downtown Miami and pay a visit to the Cuban suburb of Calle Ocho, where Sangria flows and Cuban and Latino rhythms pulsate through the streets.
Your room
Rooms overlook either the hotel’s gardens or the ocean, and are accompanied by Wanders’ eclectic designs which meet both our basic and more extravagant needs. All suites have large windows which emphasise the exposure guests have to the beautiful coastline, and ensure that the encapsulating views of the hotel’s gardens and the prime ocean position seamlessly become just another aspect of the décor. Suites allow guests to work, though it is highly unlikely that you will want to, given your surroundings. Wi-Fi access and work space are both provided, but so too are beautiful bath products from MALIN+GOETZ, Egyptian cotton bed linen and an in-room Spa Service.
Why we like it
Marcel Wanders’ work is faultless and creates something of a fantasy world which you are unlikely to experience anywhere else. Aside from the pool, something of the centerpiece of the hotel, labyrinth gardens with secluded ‘kissing corners’ and the hotel’s ‘floating staircase’ are just two of the hotel’s aesthetic highlights. That’s before we even begin to address the 4,000 square-foot spa and BASE 24/7 – an in-house retro boutique selling MIANSIA jewellery and URBANEARS headphones, to name but two of the eclectic mix of pieces available.
