Riviera Resort and Spa, California

Walk the same path of Elvis Presley, Dean Martin and Frank Sinatra and check into Riviera Resort and Spa. Irwin Schuman the architect and visionary created the Riviera when he saw the evolution of Vegas hotels. Wanting to bring a slice of that glamor to Palm Springs, 1959 saw the arrival of Riv (as it’s locally known). Expect mirrored walls, glass tables and Andy Warhol-esk art decorating the 406 suites which rest in the Coachella Valley bringing it a new level of retro swank – making the Riviera the place to see and be seen while on a ‘vay-cay’ in Palm Springs.

LOCATION

Arriving into the Cali sunshine at Palm Springs International Airport it’s a ten minute drive by private car to the retro Riviera. Or if you fancied that California road trip it’s a scenic two hour drive from LA. The Riv is footsteps away from the Indian Canyons as well as the Palm Springs Air Museum, but our favorite it jumping on the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway. It’s the largest rotating tramcar which rewards you with spectacular views of the sheer cliffs of Chino Canyon.

YOUR ROOM

Waking up to a garden, mountain or poolside view is not a bad life, although getting out of your bed could be a struggle. The Riviera has a signature slumber – 300 thread count linens layered between pillow top mattresses, featherbed, down-filled duvet and down-filled pillows – put simply it is heaven. Mirrored tables, glass lamps and a spectacular marble bathroom give your room an art deco feel with a modern twist.

WHY WE LIKE IT

For us when we think about Palm Springs we imagine lounging effortlessly by the pool, big shades and a cocktail in hand – the Riviera does not disappoint. It provides two pools with private cabanas for you to perfect your sun bathing skills, and then when you are dehydrated a visit to the appropriately named Bikini Bar is a must. Whipping up your choice of drink will clench your thirst immediately.
