The USA
The Wauwinet, Nantucket Island
Nestled on the northeast shores of Nantucket Island lies The Wauwinet, a luxury boutique hotel with 32 grand guestrooms and four cottages. The majestic mansion, named after the chief of the Indian tribe that inhabited the East of the island, welcomed its first guests in 1875. Almost 150 years later, you can travel back in time to old America and indulge in the daily port and cheese hour in the Wauwinet library, sip iced tea out on the lawn, and haul in lobster traps from Nantucket Bay aboard The Wauwinet Lady with Captain Rob.
LOCATION
The Wauwinet has the lively surf of the Atlantic on one side and the calm, warm waters of Nantucket Bay on the other. And with private beaches on either side, the Wauwinet has the best of both worlds. You’ll find Nantucket Island hidden just off the coast of Cape Cod, so you’ll need to catch a connecting flight from Boston’s International Airport to the island’s almost-secret airport. Or, combine your trip to Nantucket Island with a visit to NYC and catch a ferry from the Big Apple. It would be rude not to, wouldn’t it?
YOUR ROOM
With 32 rooms and four cottages to choose from you are utterly spoilt for choice. Each room is uniquely designed with custom furnishings, 400 thread-count linens and fresh wild Nantucket Island flowers replaced daily. Stay in a suite and step out of your French doors onto the outdoor sundeck with far-reaching views of the bay. Or, completely overindulge and stay in the Anchorage House. With three en-suite bedrooms, a living area, kitchen, dining area and even an ocean-view office; you’ll be living in sheer luxury. The hotel will also throw in a BMW for you to use during your stay, too.
WHY WE LIKE IT
On arrival, you’ll find Champagne and a dozen locally harvested Retsyo Oysters on the half shell, cultivated just 300 yards away, waiting for you in your suite. To continue the tasting of true New England, dine at Wauwinet’s very own restaurant, TOPPER’s. One of the nation’s most acclaimed restaurants, TOPPER’s is a favorite foodie destination along the waters of Nantucket Bay and serves almost 1500 different wines for the ultimate wine pairing experience.
