Australia
Longitude 131°, Uluru
Longitude 131° is a truly authentic outback experience, only with none of the hardships, all of the natural beauty, and (of course) plenty of luxury living. The friendly staff are completely at your disposal to make your stay as perfect as it can be, easily done when the backdrop to it all is an awe-inspiring sunset over the stunning natural masterpiece of Uluru. Dine at Table 131° with nothing but the sky above you, as it shifts in color from orange, blue or purple, to a brilliant red as the sun sets. It’s a pretty amazing sight to say the least. Trust us, there’s a reason this is Australia’s most famous natural landmark.
Location
Slap, bang in the middle of the country, as far away from anything as you can be, this is the perfect spot for some serious peace and quiet. Set in what is known at the ‘Red Center’ of Australia, every tent opens up to panoramic views of the world famous Uluru – the only thing that interrupts the horizon for as far as you can see. Simply breathtaking. To get here, fly into Conellan Airport, a short 15-minute drive away. Beyond that, it’s a 4-5 hour drive to the nearest town, Alice Springs.
Your room
Stay in one of 16 luxury tents and turn your attention to views over Australia’s most stunning landmark: Uluru. Nothing has been spared to make sure your stay here is the ultimate in luxury, with rich dark woodwork, cream walls and soft fabric draping across your ‘tent’ ceiling, you really feel like you’re camping in the wilderness, except you’re in absolute comfort. Lie back in your lush king sized bed and flip a switch to open your blinds up for what we think will be one of the most amazing sunrises (or sunsets if you’re not an early riser) you’ll ever see. If you want to dial the experience up a notch though? There’s always the option to grab a swag and sleep out beneath the stars on your private deck. A magical moment not to be missed in our opinion.
Why we like it
This is a totally different luxury retreat and a mini history lesson, all in one. We love how each tent contains a visual narrative of a different Australian pioneer or explorer to honour the rich history of the country and the people who were brave enough to explore it. In one tent, learn about John McDouall Stuart: known as the ‘king of Australian explorers,’ he was the first European to set eyes on the Red Center. Lucky guy. Your stay also comes complete with a custom programme of experiences that will see you become acquainted with the Uluru-Kata Tjuta National park in no time. It doesn’t take much to see why we love it.
