Tweedsmuir Park Lodge
Step off the beaten track and into grizzly bear territory at Tweedsmuir Park Lodge. Set amid a breathtaking wilderness, framed by mountains and carpeted with dense forest, this is the playground of adventure. Nine rustic log cabins give way to pristine riverfront, perfect for casting a line or drifting downstream past fishing grizzles. For those looking to go bigger, take off from your doorstep on a heli-hiking adventure and enjoy unrivalled panoramic views of the Bella Coola Valley. Gourmet cuisine, stunning scenery and mighty wildlife – Tweedsmuir is the perfect escape from the everyday.
Location
Nestled between Mt. Stupendous and Mt. Melikan, at a place where the Atnarko, Talchako and Bella Coola Valleys meet, Tweedsmuir Park Lodge is the perfect rural retreat. But that doesn’t mean it has to be inaccessible – far from it in fact. The Lodge is just a 70-minute light aircraft flight from Vancouver, whisking you out of the city and into the wilds of the Great Bear Rainforest to take up prime position for grizzly spotting in no time.
Your Room
There are just nine rustic-luxe chalets at Tweedsmuir, meaning you are guaranteed to see more bears than people. Choose between Duplex or Loft Chalets, or opt for our personal favorite; the Grizzly Log Chalet with its sculpted California King bed and authentic, cozy decor. In the evenings, step out onto your private terrace and enjoy a crisp glass of wine or a warming cup of cocoa as you watch the wildlife go by and the stars shine overhead.
Why we like it
Tweedsmuir truly is bear country – our top tip? Visit in the autumn when salmon fill the rivers and grizzlies young and old come out to fish. On a Grizzly Bear safari, you’ll get closer than ever before as you float down rivers through their fishing ground and hike through old growth forests in their footsteps. Visit in the winter though, and the mountains surrounding Tweedsmuir take on a whole other personality. Recognized as one of the best places in the world for heli-skiing, strap in for an extreme winter adventure full of steep slopes and stunning scenery.
