Location

Shrouded by thick jungle on the foothills of Arenal Volcano, Nayara Tented Camp is blessed with the best of Costa Rica’s natural beauty. Adventure extends in all directions here, yet you need not wander far to find it with nocturnal frog walks and sunrise bird walks taking place on property. To get to Nayara, it’s a 2.5 hour drive into the jungle from San Jose, or a quick charter flight into nearby El Tanque Airfield.

The 21 tented suites at Nayara Tented Camp offer your own private oasis within the rainforest. Taking a cue from luxury African safaris, every comfort has been considered – from sumptuous rolltop baths to enveloping four-poster beds. Inside, neutral tones are lifted by rainforest prints and brass accents whilst outside, an infinity pool reaches into the canopy and a hammock lures you into a lazy afternoon. Why we like it

As part of the Nayara family, dining is a particular highlight. Two sister properties lie just a stone’s throw away opening up five different options, each with something unique to offer. Enjoy the pulperia inspired Asia Luna one night and the seductive atmosphere of AmorLoco the next, but don’t miss out on the Tented Camp’s own, La Terraza del Arenal. Open to the rainforest, the menu follows a zero-kilometer philosophy, using only the freshest, local ingredients in renditions of authentic dishes.

Sustainability

As part of the development of Nayara, huge emphasis has been placed on reforestation after the land was cleared decades ago for grazing. Now, inch by inch, the rainforest is slowly reclaiming this corner of Costa Rica. As part of this effort, towering Cecropia trees have been planted all around the property with the goal of establishing this as a safe sanctuary for the area’s resident sloth population. Armed with a pair of binoculars, these slow-paced locals can often be spotted from your (sustainably designed) luxury tent.
