Location
Situated on the Osa Peninsula in southern Costa Rica, Playa Cativo is tucked within the tropical Piedras Blancas National Park. Following a scenic 50-minute flight from the capital city of San Jose to Golfito, a 30-minute private speed-boat will take you straight to the shores of Playa Cativo. The waters surrounding the lodge are notorious for dolphin sightings so keep your eyes peeled on this picturesque voyage.
Your Room
All 18 suites at Playa Cativo are adorned with natural wood furnishings, personifying the splendour beyond the walls. The plantation-style room each consist of a spacious living area opening onto 180-degree views of the ocean and rainforest. For something more private, opt for one of the villas with their private plunge pools and hammocked terraces. Spend each night being lulled to sleep by the sounds of lapping tides and each morning waking to the sweet symphony of Costa Rican frogs, monkeys, birds and more.
Why we like it
While the beach-front pool is stunning, we found we could barely stay off the ocean with everything from whale watching to snorkelling, kayaking, and stand-up paddleboarding. Back on dry land, wellness is the order of the day with beachfront yoga, deep tissue massages, revitalizing meditation and farm-to-table meals.
