Playa Cativo, Osa Peninsula

A boutique eco-lodge nestled on the glassy Golfo Dulce waters, Playa Cativo is the embodiment of La Pura Vida — the simple life. Sequestered amongst untouched Costa Rican rainforest and plentiful wildlife, this remote property features just 18 suites and is rooted in a feeling of pure peace and tranquillity. Raw beauty and adventurous pursuits playing in unison with indulgent cuisine and luxurious surrounds? This slice of paradise has it all.

Location

Situated on the Osa Peninsula in southern Costa Rica, Playa Cativo is tucked within the tropical Piedras Blancas National Park. Following a scenic 50-minute flight from the capital city of San Jose to Golfito, a 30-minute private speed-boat will take you straight to the shores of Playa Cativo. The waters surrounding the lodge are notorious for dolphin sightings so keep your eyes peeled on this picturesque voyage.

Your Room

All 18 suites at Playa Cativo are adorned with natural wood furnishings, personifying the splendour beyond the walls. The plantation-style room each consist of a spacious living area opening onto 180-degree views of the ocean and rainforest. For something more private, opt for one of the villas with their private plunge pools and hammocked terraces. Spend each night being lulled to sleep by the sounds of lapping tides and each morning waking to the sweet symphony of Costa Rican frogs, monkeys, birds and more.

Why we like it

While the beach-front pool is stunning, we found we could barely stay off the ocean with everything from whale watching to snorkelling, kayaking, and stand-up paddleboarding. Back on dry land, wellness is the order of the day with beachfront yoga, deep tissue massages, revitalizing meditation and farm-to-table meals. With infinite opportunities for relaxation and exploration alike, Playa Cativo will sweep you off your feet.
