A hand-selected sampling of the very best that Iceland has to offer fit perfectly into a week-long itinerary, this trip will give you the sense of pure fulfillment that comes from truly experiencing it all. Fluorescent blue glaciers, temperamental volcanoes, majestic waterfalls, geothermal geysers and hot springs, and a historic swim between tectonic plates all highlighted by the uber-cool Icelandic capital bursting with culture and creativity. This is the most comprehensive Icelandic adventure we have put together to date.
Strap on your Crampons
Your Icelandic experience begins at Hotel Ranga, an hour away from Reykjavik and situated on the banks of the East-Range Salmon River. An ideal location to explore the south of Iceland, the property is surrounding by miles of scenic grassland with Mt. Helka majestically towering in the distance. In the morning, you will hit the ground running and instead of viewing, or say, hiking the blue-iced glaciers, you will strap on your crampons, grab your ice picks and head for a vertical climb straight up one. Not to worry though, your expert guide will be there to ensure your complete safety while you explore the naturally sculptured crevasses and jagged ridges formed in the ice. Next, travel by super jeep to the temperamental Eyjafjallajokull glacier volcano, which last erupted in 2010. Towards the nature reserves of Thorsmork and Godaland you will see the legendary Seljalandsfoss waterfall and travel in between glaciers to reveal rivers and valleys surrounded by breath-taking canyons and rock formations.Read more
Into the Deep
A dramatic snorkelling session begins your next morning. Swimming in between slowly separating tectonic plates, you will dive into the Silfra fissure to reveal craggy, sheer-faced, vertical cliffs deep in the lakes crystal-clear glacial waters. A taste of urban life will come in the afternoon when you check-in at your ultra-hip boutique Hotel 101. Our favored option in Reykjavik, the sleekly decorated hotel is centrally located and the ideal base for the remainder of your journey. Your first night in the city will have you sampling the world-class seafood restaurants, sipping lattes at artsy cafes and dancing the night away at clubs energized by Iceland’s vibrant music scene.
The Golden Circle and sky high
By super jeep you will head out to the renowned sites that mark the Golden Circle. A stop in the geothermal Haukadalur valley will reveal Geysir and Strokkur geysers hurling boiling water up to 70m into the air. A visit to the dramatic Gullfoss waterfall follows. The Hvítá river abruptly plunges deep into the earth and down into a canyon covering you in a mist of cool water. Use the next morning to explore the vintage stores, fashion boutiques and hidden record stores that line Laugavegur Street in Reykjavik. Afterwards, head to sea and experience the whale watching capital of Northern Europe. Minke whales, white-beaked dolphins, harbor porpoises and the popular humpback whales are common sightings; while sea birds such as gannets, puffins, guillemots, cormorants, gulls, kittiwakes, and Arctic terns are likely companions on your trip.
Your comprehensive Icelandic adventure ends with a dip in the geothermal, mineral rich waters of the Blue Lagoon. Soak up all the scenic beauty while breathing in the refreshingly pure Icelandic air before concluding a satisfying journey embracing all that Iceland has to offer.
