Welcome to your Kenyan outmail, your ‘home away from home’; in Swahili – ‘Kinondo Kwetu’. Settle in quickly as you while away the hours on a white and turquoise cast-away beach or in the welcome shade of your Veranda. Need to unwind just a little more, mosey on over for a massage or take perch on the cliff tops for a spot of yoga as the sun goes down. Or something a little more strenuous? Perhaps explore sacred forests on horseback or try your hand at scuba diving and wake boarding. Kinondo Kwetu is the ultimate in barefoot luxury; if only we really could call this home.
For unrivalled paradise, leave frenzied Mombasa behind and head south along Kenya’s coastal highway. Just an hour later find yourself at Kinondo Kwetu, a secluded oasis of absolute calm on a 150m private stretch of Galu Beach.
It is here where the namesake Kinondo Kwetu really begins to take on meaning; withdraw from the world to your very own tropical hideaway. Combine childhood make-believe’s of Swiss Family Robinson (the family behind the property are Swedish, but allow us this one) with refined windswept interiors for a kind of cast-away chic.
The rooms, housed in thatched cottages dotted amongst the lush gardens, offer all you could possibly desire in terms of home comforts including en suite bathrooms and king sized beds as well as absolute seclusion.
Why we like it
We love this hotel for being exactly what it sets out to be – Kinondo Kwete. The lack of crowds and noise, the flexibility to eat wherever you choose and activities which are governed only by nature. Plus, who could not adore the feeling of being utterly deserted yet in complete luxury, the incredible straight-out-the-sea food and the beach (…especially the beach). Paradise found. An idyllic sanctuary after a hectic few days spotting Kenya’s big five or as a honeymoon retreat.
Want to relive your honeymoon but can’t leave the kids? Simple, bring them with you. The resort offers an array of activities that will keep even the most active kids busy. From snorkeling fishing and boat excursions suitable for young children – who may even get to meet a dolphin. To kite surfing, kayaking and sailing for teens. Your kids will leave with ecstatic memories and possibly a new skill, like water skiing.
