Volcanoes, hot pools and steaming geysers are all signs of the power Fire plays in New Zealand’s landscapes and you’ll be able to explore them all on this fire-inspired trip.
Your first stop on our Fire Itinerary is Auckland. Explore this tranquil city and its myriad of cultural experiences, and make sure to take a trip up the Sky Tower to survey the landscape you’re about to discover. On your second day, you’ll be taken to collect your rental car and continue your onward journey to spend three nights at Rotorua, the heartland of New Zealand’s Maori culture. Limestone caves and bursting geysers really help you to feel at the mercy of the earth’s elements.
Experience private helicopter tours of White Island and Mount Tarawera, two stunning volcanoes, one on its own island in the ocean. Stops can be made, weather permitting, to get even closer to the action. The power of the volcanoes has real resonance in Maori culture so be sure to explore the local villages and thermal springs on your own and really soak up all that Rotorua has to offer.Read more
VOLCANOES AND RED CRATORS
On day five, it’ll be time to drive to Turangi to stay at River Birches, and prepare for your trek the following day through the volcanic Tongariro National Park. Thermally active craters and snow covered desert-scapes will surround you in this fascinating landscape, and you’ll be dumb-struck by the Red Crater area.
By day seven a rest will be in order, so we’ll have you on a flight to Christchurch in time to relax at the Grasmere Lodge for the afternoon. This wonderful haven is the perfect location to discover how the locals do it, and a private tour of the property and its sheep farms will give you a true insight into New Zealand culture.
HOT POOLS AND AIR BALLOONS
Franz Josef is only four hours away and is where you’ll be heading on day nine, for more luxury accommodations at Te Waonui Forest Retreat. Stunning glaciers and hot pools surround the hotel and here is your opportunity to yet more incredible mountain scenes, and the ever elusive Kiwi bird (at the West Coast Wildlife Centre).
After two nights in Franz Josef, you will drive on to Queenstown, for the last leg of your trip. Three nights at the Matakauri Lodge is plenty of time to indulge in this paradise amidst the Southern Alps. As well as organising a private helicopter tour of the Milford Sound for you, we’ll continue the firey theme by taking a hot air balloon around the region. There’s no doubt that the sights you’ll see will be etched into your memory for years to come, that is, until you come back for more.
