Babylonstoren, Franschhoek
This idyllic Cape Dutch farmhouse may be an authentic 17th-century estate on first glance, but step through the gates and discover a place which has since transformed itself into a contemporary home-away-from-home. Although still a working farm at heart – a simple approach to luxury now courses through the veins at Babylonstoren. With 33 rooms spread out across a collection of suites and cottages and tucked away in the original Manor House, guests can fully immerse themselves into this serene oasis for the ultimate city getaway.
Location
In a hidden spot on the Cape Winelands, Babylonstoren is disguised amongst the surrounding sandstone mountains. Although the international airport is a mere 45-minute drive away, and vibrant Cape Town only an hour away, you’ll feel worlds away from real life when you’re surrounded by the hotel’s expansive gardens and vineyards.
Your Room
Stepping into your own luxury farmhouse cottage at Babylonstoren, you can expect to find a refreshingly simple elegance. A white color palette dominates, leaving the gardens to shine in vibrant color just outside your window. Curl up beside the fireplace, slip into the deep sinking bathtub or spend a balmy evening dining al-fresco on your private terrace, with produce delivered in a crate fresh from the farm, admiring the stunning panorama.
Why we like it
Beyond its spellbinding gardens, Babylonstoren’s real standout moment is its dining. Ask any local you can find where the best place to eat is around here – and they will surely answer Babel. Much like the rest of Babylonstoren, the menu is a testament to the luxury of simplicity. Shining a spotlight on seasonal, hand-grown produce, the flavors here burst across your palette. Not only at Babel too, but in the Greenhouse and in the Bakery. For a special touch, we recommend getting some friends together for a meal in the Spice Garden where aromatic fragrances reminiscent of the Spice Trade hang in the air.
