Gecko Hotel & Beach Club, Formentera
Step back into an era of 1950s glamor at Gecko Hotel & Beach Club in Formentera. Harking back to the days when the international jet-set first set foot on Balearic shores, Gecko is Spain’s answer to Riviera-chic. Home to just 30 rooms and a relaxed glamor that honours the tiny island’s bohemian roots, Gecko invites lazy days drenched in sunshine. Relaxing in a cabana, lounging in a hammock or dining on the beachfront, feel the pressures of time disappear as soon as you drop your bags.
Location
Dropped amid the sparkling waters of the Balearic Islands, Formentera has been a favorite of the jet-set for over half a century. A quick 30-minute ferry ride from neighboring Ibiza and a 15-minute drive from La Savina and Gecko awaits atop the white sand shores of Migjorn Beach. Whilst you’ll find it hard to tear yourself away from that beachside cabana, should you do, the island also has coastal paths, mud baths and natural swimming pools aplenty for you to discover.
Your Room
Laidback luxury is the order of the day in the 30 guestrooms at Gecko Hotel & Beach Club. Whether you opt for ground floor or first floor, sunrise or sunset, the rooms here are so close to the beach that you can almost feel the waves lapping at your door. A neutral color scheme is livened up through splashes of the everpresent cobalt blue of the Balearic seas and skies and reflected in turn by the panes of mirror and glass. Whether slumbering in your king-size bed, relaxing in your patio pergola or cooling off in your plunge pool, your room will form a private oasis you’ll never want to leave.
Why we like it
First and foremost a beach club, it’s the Mediterranean lifestyle of Gecko that has kept us coming back year on year. The relaxed lunches in the Mediterranean breeze and starlit espetada barbeques have kept our appetites satiated with the freshest seafood these waters have to offer. Then, when we feel like we’ve overindulged ever so slightly? Resident yogi guru, Yiannis Mukta Om, has been on hand to revive us with 90-minutes of complimentary daily yoga. Island life truly is bliss.
