Mwiba Lodge
Surrounded by nothing but the wide open plains of the Southern Serengeti, Mwiba Lodge is an irresistible hideaway boasting front row seats to some of the animal kingdom’s most unmissable spectacles. Ten luxurious suites open up onto far-reaching views while a gorgeous infinity pool flows into the sight of a constant parade of wildlife below, leaving you in no doubt of your place in this stunning environment. For a truly unique safari experience, swing by between January and March to bear witness to the wildebeest calving season which marks the start of the famous migration.
Location
Wreathed by massive stone boulders and shaded by ancient coral and acacia trees, Mwiba forms a secluded haven where privacy is guaranteed as you look out over a rocky gorge on the Arugusinyai River. Just short of an hour’s flight from Arusha and a quick 15-minute drive from Mwiba Airstrip, the Lodge makes for the perfect stop on any Northern Tanzania safari. Spend your days rumbling across plains and walking with local tribesmen as you catch a glimpse of a world unchanged over thousands of years.
Your Room
Bringing the outdoors in, each of the ten suites beautifully integrates the Lodge’s natural surroundings through a color scheme of creams, suedes and chocolates, accented with copper fixtures and hand-carved furnishings. Canvas bathroom walls bring a sense of the original grandeur of a luxury 1920s safari, whilst sumptuous soaking baths and high-quality linens add a touch of modern-day sophistication.
Why we like it
Whilst we would quite happily never leave our suite at Mwiba Lodge, such is the enveloping sense of luxury, sometimes you need to take it back to basics. For those times, there’s fly-camping; but arriving at a secluded location to a gourmet dinner set up with a backdrop of the setting sun, you can be sure that these basics are anything but. Warmed by a campfire and cocooned by the calls of the night, sleep soundly beneath the stars of the night sky in a sleepout like no other.
