No trip to the USA is complete without a sojourn in Southern California. And so we offer you a four-night adventure in Huntington Beach – the perfect combination of surf and spa, and ideal for both young and old. The sunny and balmy climate, perfect waves for surfing, and the casual lifestyle make Huntington’s nickname of Surf City very well deserved indeed. Oh – and did we mention it’s now been decreed by Time magazine (2015) the ‘Best Beach in America’? We’ll just let that sink in…
PASEA HOTEL AND SPA
We’ll whisk you straight to the Paséa Hotel and Spa where you can start enjoying its delights as soon as possible. Just steps from the iconic Huntington Beach Pier, this hotel manages to deliver the utmost in luxury while remaining saturated with the local surf culture: a remarkable achievement. As well as the panoramic hotel rooms where you can watch the top surfers from your bed, we’re particularly impressed with the IAM menu, the in-room amenities guide that offers anything you could want under the sun. You can order literally anything: from basics such as food to a GoPro and custom surf board enabling you to hit the waves in a flash. Once you’ve exhausted the menu – for now – start your vacation by purifying your mind, body and soul with your first yoga lesson on the spacious Ocean Lawn; recharged, you’ll be ready to experience all that Huntington Beach has to offer.Read more
Today, it’s all about learning the ways of the locals with a private surf lesson on the historic beach that hosts the US Open of Surfing. Paséa’s very own Beach Butler will assist you every step of the way, from providing a daily wave report to scheduling surf lessons and transporting you right to the sand in the Paséa-branded pedicab. After a morning of riding the waves you’ll be ready to flop onto the beach in the afternoon for some well-deserved recuperation before an equally undemanding beach bonfire picnic in the evening. But this isn’t just any picnic: this’ll be a gourmet feast laid on with no expense spared. Gourmet, that is, until it comes to the yummy marshmallows: the beach set a new Guiness World Record this year for the number of people making s’mores at one time.
HUNTING FOR HUMMINGBIRDS
We predict you might wake up nursing slightly weak limbs after yesterday’s exertion in the water, so there couldn’t be a better time to hit the spa for a luxury treatment. We love the Sea Stone Massage in keeping with the oceanic feel, and there’s an outdoor enclave so you won’t forget you’re in California. Feeling thoroughly relaxed; ease yourself back into the day with an hour or two on the beach. Once you’ve made the most of the afternoon sun, we suggest a late afternoon wander to watch the sun go down at Bolsa Chica nature reserve, and spot the myriad birds flying into the setting sun. The knowledgeable staff at the Interpretive Center will let you know what to look out for on your travels; we’re obsessed with the bright pink Anna’s Hummingbird- or perhaps try and spot an adorable snowy plover. When you get back to the hotel, we think it’s time for something a little chicer than barbequed s’mores – so how about trying Paséa’s signature restaurant? Tanner’s offers quintessential SoCal cuisine centered on a “cooking with fire” concept. Here they go right back to basics, keeping nature as the element that cooks the food.
It’s time to explore the area on two wheels: Huntington Beach Bike Trail offers beautiful scenic views where you can cycle through rows of palm trees alongside mile upon mile of stunning beach – no cars in sight. Then it’s time for a hearty brunch at the famed Sugar Shack café where they serve breakfast all day, every day: their omelettes are the stuff of legend. Once you’re replenished, it’s time for a last-minute personalized lesson in local art and culture with one of our experienced guides, who’ll take you to the hottest arty spots in town. Feeling a bit more knowledgeable (and with some colorful souvenirs stashed in your bag) you can head back to the hotel to the Treehouse lounge, the chic rooftop patio bar where you can sip cocktails prepared by an award-winning mixologist. After a mojito or three, wander through the street markets and make like a local by grabbing some scrumptious street food. After less than five days in Surf City, you’ll feel like a true Southern Californian – and trust us, the best souvenir you’ll take home is your newly laid-back vibe. It’ll last for weeks.
